Network Drops Mid-Transfer of Files - Win 7 64 bit

I have been wrestling with this night and day. Here are the specifics of my system:


1) Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit (Networking Win 7 Ultimate: 6-core, 4-core, Xerox MFP Phaser Printer, Internet)
2) Gigabyte motherboard with on-board LAN
3) D-Link DGL 4100 router - Configured properly with both computers and Printer showing IP's (DCHP) and MAC addresses


A) Printers recognized by both the Quad and the 6-core computers.
B) Internet connected, on and accessible from both computers
C) Cisco NetworkMagic and Win 7 both report Network and Internet Access (lower right corner of screen)
D) Occasionally (key word) both computers are mutually visible to each other - and then suddenly not visible
E) Occasionally directories are visible to/from both computers - and then suddenly not visible
F) File sharing so opened up that a groundhog in the next county could access anything


In an attempt to eliminate variables and re-check everything:
1) Re-did the Workgroup setup procedure per http://windows.microsoft.com/e.....-workgroup (USELESS, COMMON SENSE)
--- Every setting checked and double checked
2) Deleted/Uninstalled MSE - Now only have ESET AV/Firewall
3) D-Link DGL-4100 Gamer Router configured properly.
4) Still have BitTorrent installed and running - just no downloading or seeding at the moment


Note:
A) I am NOT interested in networking to Win XP, Vista, etc. - Only within Win 7 Workgroup
B) No, I will not use HomieGroup - because of its many limitations.


So that's it. No reliable network, file sharing or file transfer possible. Like a bad date, at best it's on again, off again. Help please.


Rant for the day: Why has the ease of networking in Win NT 4.0 been replaced by the convenience of networking in Windows 7? :devil:

There is a good chance that one of those A/V's is causing this problem. Running two realtime A/V's can be very problematic. I haven't worked with network magic so can't say if that is part of the problem or not. Updating the router's firmware might be another option to try.

I think I would uninstall or reconfigure Eset as MSE usually doesn't cause any problems with sharing.

Dumped all AV programs except ESET. Turned off NIC sleep function. Could see other computer yesterday on "Network Map", but now no longer on Network Map or Explorer. Router still sees everything, computers and printer. Both computers still have access via shared IP to the net.

De-Provements: Now I don't drop files mid-transfer any more. I can't even find the other computer via Explorer.

Additional information: I am NOT using HomeGroup. I am using WorkGroup. (didn't like the folksy name "homegroup"; also don't like MS handholding and possible "supervision") :'(

For what it's worth I sure appreciate your assistance.

Have dumped every AV. Why the hell not ESET as well? Will try, since suicide is not an option - Yet.

Thought for the day: Where is Win NT 4.0 when you need it. Manual configuration was sure easier! :sarc:

UPDATE

1) Disabled ESET - Big Help
2) Disabled/Enabled Win Firewall - No difference
3) LAN Configuration - Took Out ESET; Added IPv6

Result:
1) Now 6-Core can see Quad-Core
2) Successfully transferred important files (so I can work at least) from "Documents" after copying them from the H directory of the Quad-Core to "Documents" on Quad-Core (real damned progress, going via one's kneecap to get from the shoulder to the hand!) - THIS TIME, THOUGH, FILE TRANSFER DID NOT STALL.

Existing Problems:
1) Quad-Core cannot see 6-core via Explorer but is on the Network Map (go figure)
2) I still cannot transfer files from viewed partitions on Quad-Core to 6-Core without moving them first to Documents on the Quad; I am told I "Do Not Have Permission From My Adminstrator (I am the damned Administrator!) - "Permissions" granted to ALL w/out restriction.

Movement From 6-core to Quad not possible at all - of course.

A small victory but still not there yet - even to circa 1995 modernism.
