Hi, I have an Asus Eeepc Netbook with Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. I don't see the network icon (for some reason it disappeared) or the time in system tray. I went through the steps outlined here unsuccessfully. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks.
(I checked Device Manager and there are no conflicts, the network adapters are all there and showing no problems).

hi DanRex, thanks for your reply, unfortunately that little icon that you're mentioning is not present either. The only icons that are in the system tray are: Desktop button, Norton Internet Security, Synaptics Touchpad and Remove Hardware. Then there is as usual a vertical line that separates the system tray from the taskbar. Any other clue? Thanks

I finally "solved" the issue the hard way: Windows clean reinstall. No problems now. However, I wish I knew how to actually solve the issue without having to reinstall everything again.

This is easily accomplished with a system image. :)

For my PC I don't do an image, I always create a clone to a 2nd hard drive. But for this netbook I did not. Is it possible to create a complete system image (clone) to a USB pendrive (or external drive) ? Any link that you can suggest that explains how to do the image creation and recovery? Thanks

According to Microsoft you have to save the image to a hard drive first but then that same image can be saved on a USB drive.

Maybe with a NAS box then to a USB drive.

Back up your programs, system settings, and files

Ok, so I create the System Image using Backup&Restore and save it to an external hard drive or USB drive. Now I want to clone that image to the formatted partition in my netbook. How is that done? Does the created image contain an executable that performs the restoration?

P.D.: I found these instructions. It seems there is no automated restoration as with 3rd party software like Acronis. Anyway, it's cool that Microsoft included an image creation option in Win7 as there is none in XP. Hope it's as reliable as dedicated software like Acronis, Ghost, etc.
