Network Map and Unknown Device

Hello-

I researched this and researched it until I'm blue in the face, with no resolution.

Regarding the Windows 7 Network Map, I get this blue question mark suggesting

an unknown device (see attachment). The only way I can get rid of it is to disable

and then re-enable my Realtek adapter. That only lasts until the pc goes to sleep

and we awaken it. Of note, we tried another 'internet fix'- going into the network

adapter's properties> Advanced and changed the Priority & VLAN property to

VLAN Only, to no avail.

There definitely is a performance degradation when the blue question mark is

showing, in that the internet seems slower and most definitely browser tabs open

much slower.

Can any one tell me what's going on here and how I can fix this?

Doesn't the router have a list of what's connected and what ips are assigned most have this if it's wireless it could be a hacker stealing your bandwidth or do you have any smart devices like TV? Failing that you can get network scanners which will identify it and they are free

Look at the NIC Vendor. If there is no vendor then right click the MAC address and paste here. The first six digits is the vendor. I noticed my smartphone doesn't show up, but a Google of the MAC address tells me it's a Samsung which is correct.

Didn't look in the router, but it's password protected... man, you just got me to thinking about

something, though- although my pc is hard wired to router, my smartphone is linked to the router's

WiFi... that must be it!

Hey, thanks!... yeah, 'samuria' engaged my brain for me- I forgot my smartphone is linked to the router

via WiFi...that's got to be it! We'll double check, though, and if it's not we'll post back.

Yeah, this unknown MAC address 30:4B:07:5C:FD:14 APPEARS to be my Motorola Moto smartphone-

Motorola Solutions Inc. <- MAC vendors list :: udger.com

Problem is solved...it's smartphone through WiFi in Router.
