Network Printer Behind Two Routers - Need Assistance to Install

Hello,

I suspect the reason I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to install this printer on a host pc in a separate room of our lab is that two routers are involved and each is connected to a unique LAN wall port. I attempted to accomplish installation by printer name and IP address but, no luck. I need access to the printer by three more host computers (i.e., coupled to instrumentation). Can anyone here offer assistance?

Please relocate if necessary. I thought this issue to be best described as a network rather than hardware thread.

You would connect an ethernet cable and turn on and install the software install the network driver not direct connection driver you wiil get onscreen prompts.

Every aspect of the network functions as desired. I may have described our situation poorly. For example, we update the OS, antivirus, etc. routinely with it. I simply have not been able to "see" our own printer located < 20' from the host computers on the network. The fact that I made no progress using the IP address of the printer annoyed me.

The Epson WorkForce 310 works fine for our desktop computers located in the larger part of our lab.

Yes, the computers in the other lab and the WorkForce 310, are behind a different router.

Perhaps I misunderstood.

The way to do that is to bring them all in the same subnet.

You would do a Lan port to Lan port connection using an ethernet cable between the two routers only the one in your lab would have internet connectivity and do DHCP for both routers all port forwarding if needed would be done with the first router that had internet connectivity.
If they are wireless The above without wires and the router connected to the first with internet connectivity would have to support wireless bridging.

The second router would not have internet connectivity or DHCP or any port forwarding on it.

I can take you thru it.

I'm with you on part of this. For example, I need to disconnect the router (the host pc's are attached to) from the building LAN jack. Then, I connect it to the "primary" router (i.e., retains ethernet) with a lengthy ethernet cable. This enables the same DHCP (presumably some software controls are involved as well. ). This is okay if the host pc's connected to the "secondary" router retain access to ethernet for software updates, data transfer, etc. I will be back in the lab on Monday so, I may need to resume this then if direct involvement is required for us to interact. If not, fire away. You have my attention.

I just realized I will need to wait to determine if the "primary" router has an available port to begin this network change. I'm uncertain, but think it does.

You will need access to both routers username and passwords?

You don't give me username password.

Thats why I say you do not break any company protocols and rules are broken you did not answer that.

Ok i will do a Lan to Lan setup:

These are only examples your terminolgy for the routers may be different, and IP addresses may be different, wireless settings may be different.

Router 1(Connected to the internet)

Navigate to it's IP address 192.168.1.1
Log in using username and password

Wireless Setting:

Wireless Mode: Mixed b/g/n
Wireless Bandwidth: 20Mhz
Channel: 6(not Auto)

Wireless security:

Authentification: WPA2
Algorythm: AES
Network Key: 12345678

LanSetup(DHCP SERVER) Look at the start 192.168.1.3 and End 192.168.1.50. On Router 2 you give it IP address either 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.1.51 or above etc, outside of the scope of the DHCP server on router 1.

Make a NOTE of these

Router 2:

Wireless setting:

Wireless Mode: match router 1
Wireless Bandwidth: match router 1
Channel: match router 1 (not auto)

Wireless security:
Authentification: Match router 1
Algorythm: Match router 1
Network key: Match router 1


Disable DHCP

IP address: 192.168.1.51

Re-boot router.

Turn off both routers.

Connect ethernet cable to WAN port of Router 1.

Connect ethernet cable from Lan port on router 1 to router 2 Lan port.

Turn on router 1 wait until it is fully booted.
Turn on router 2 wait until it is fully booted.
Connect switchs or computers.
Check for internet access.

Best to do this outside of office hours so it does not disrupt anyone.
