Please forgive me if I'm double posting, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere. I am having a problem with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 that when I install 4 GB of Ram, the computer boots up and loads windows fine, but it will not recognize the network. When I take out 1GB and make it 3GB of RAM, it works fine. It is a custom build computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 processor. Any help is appreciated.

Is your Ram all the same brand, speed, latencies all the same or did you add some new Ram to your existing Ram?

There are 4 slots so It is Dual Channel. Both Channels have 2 different types of RAM (Channel 1 has 2 1GB kingston sticks and Channel 2 has 2 1GB PNY sticks). Both Kingstons are the same and both PNYs are the same.

Mixing Ram brands can be very problematic, my first guess would be that is the problem and you should try to get all the same brand and specs. Other than that I havn't heard of this exact problem before but there are many problems associated with mixing Ram brands on the same board. That is why I summized that there must be a mixed memory thing going on here.

My rule for my computers is always use the exact same Ram in all slots.

Just out of curiosity does it say somewhere that you have 4g installed. Like did you rerun your WEI and see what that says is recognized? And when you say it does not network is that won't see your other PC's on the LAN or just can't get on the internet? Good luck to you with this problem :D

It does recognize all 4 gigs and it seems to go faster. What I mean is the network icon on the bottom right in the taskbar just says "Identifying" It wont recognize anything from the default gateway on. I tried inputting a Static IP as well and that didn't help, it still did the same thing.

jkennedy, Thanks for sharing that with us. Certainly a strange problem. I hope that matching up ram will solve your troubles. Let us know in this thread if you fix this.

I know this is an old thread but it directly relates to my problem as well. Installed I have the Corsair XMS2 2GB Dual Channel memory kit. Since 2GB is the base for Win 7 64 (home Premium on that computer) I bought the Corsair XMS2 4GB Dual Channel memory kit. I installed it bringing me up to 6GB (detected both in BIOS and Win 7) but it kicked me into Unidentified Network. I tried all the fixes I could find online and even did a nuke and pave (fdisk, format, install) all with ZERO luck. The best I got was about 2 minutes with it back in Home Network with NO internet access before going into Unidentified Network. So thinking that maybe even though they are the same rated memory sticks with the only difference being their size that I would remove the 2GB kit and just run with the 4GB kit. Problem continued. Took out the 4GB kit and put the 2GB kit in and the problem fixed. So I sent in a ticket to Corsair asking for their advice. I'll do some more research tomorrow as it is 0032 hours right now and I am tired. If anyone here has any suggestions, tips, ideas, thermal nuclear detenators, etc that could fix the problem please speak up and let me know. Trouble shooting steps taken within Win7 that did not work Uninstall the network drivers and reinstall Update the network drivers Disable IPv6 Disable Windows Firewall Disable IP Helper TCP/IP stack reset DNS flush register hack to force DHCP broadcasting while allowing the fall back to non DHCP broadcasting Drop Homegroup and Rejoin to select Home Network Nuke and Pave (delete the partition, recreate the partition, format, and install Win7 clean) I think that is all the things I have tried thus far. Thanks in advance ;)
