Network Share Error: specified authentication package is unknown

I am able to connect from XP to a network share at my workplace by giving login/password. However, when I try to connect from Windows 7 i get the error: "specified authentication package is unknown"

However, I am able to connect to another shares. From XP no one is having any problems in connecting to this share at all.

Have googled but to no avail. Found one suggestion to add 'authentication packages' key to registry but it was already present in my Win 7 and with the correct value.

Any help would be appreciated as I am at my wits end with this issue. Win 7 is working flawlessly otherwise. Much much better than XP. Vista was pretty much unusable on my laptop (HP TC 4400 tabletpc)

ok, you have specified the problem, but gave no information on any setups of the network(s). how are other supposed to help you unless they have ran into the specific error that you specified?( which i myself do not recall running into)

Umm....sorry; am not sure what exact info to give, but here goes:

The network is a company intranet on 10.125.0.0 and IPs are given out by a DHCP server. I am able to browse the other PCs/shares on the network from Win7 and am able to map various shares after giving the required login/pass except for this specific share. I am able to map/browse this share from WinXP as well as mount it under Linux as cifs/smbfs with the correct password/login.
Am using wired ethernet on the laptop though wifi is also available. Am able to browse the internet through the gateway/proxy server on the network.

Pl ask if there's anything else you need to know.

Did your company setup the XP machines? Is your Win7 installation joined to their domain network? Do they use Active Directory and do they use custom authentication mechanisms like smart cards or similar?

Im thinking its a custom authentication package their using with Active Directory or the share is protected by Active Directory (meaning Win 7 would need to be joined to the domain before getting access to that share)

No, I've setup the winxp machine and its not joined to the domain. I only need to give my login/pass when accessing the share from XP or Linux. My login has been added to the allowed users on the share. Funny part is that it even works in linux (apart from xp) but doesn't work in Win 7 !

Under the Folder Options control panel on XP, is Simple File Sharing turned on?
