Network status stuck on "Identifying..."

Well it looks like W7 isn't reading your uni LAN network, but weird that you can still connect to the internet. It could be a proxy server providing the access. Is another else have this issue?

I can ask around, but I think there are other Win7 users with the same problem. But usually nobody minds, since everything else works.

There is no proxy server as far as I know though. I can also access other computers on the local network without any problems.

I checked at a friend's computer, and he has the same issue running Windows 7 x86.

Any more ideas? I'm lost here...

dhcp server is set to automatic or is that a manual change you made on the lan adapters?


edit: your dns, default gateway and dhcp servers are all on different subnets

looks like your pc might think wins > dhcp

It's all set to automatic.

So is there anything I can do? Can I just disable WINS somehow?

Have the same problem. I dont have a solution Yet.. Mine might be just inserting a new intel NIC since its not a laptop.
A few weeks ago a friend called me with the same problem. He could put the cable stright into his modem and it would work, but when he put it into the router (Jensen) it didnt work. He got it to work by upgrading the firmware on the jensen router.
Now i have the problem on a pc i sold. We sold alot of them but none have had the problem, until now.
Its a Realtek RTL8111B/C & RTL8112L Gbit network adapter. I checked my friends hardware today and it was a Realtek GB as well.
Its connected to a Cisco router and it did work when i delivered it. After the my costumer turned it of and installed the latest updates, it didn't work anymore. He then just restored windows to a previous point and it would work until windows update was ran again (on shutdown).
After a week he was not able to set it back to restore point anymore.
Im not sure if I installed all the update before i deliverd it.
I connected a Jensen router (brand new router) and the pc works straight away.
It seems like i get an ip, but it might be 1 that it got before. I can set a static ip and turn it back to automatic and it will get the same ip.

I will not work either with static ip or dhcp.
The cisco router is delivered by the isp so i cant update it.

Found another possible fix

I have had the same problem for over a year, religated to just leaving it on all the time. Finally got tired of it, After a week of tinkering around and troubleshooting I discovered the root of my problem. HP Software for my printer was the cause. Using only the base driver works fine. all the extra "Fluff" some where in there caused my network services to hang every time.

Hi Guys, I know this is an old post but this might help someone out some day. I had the same issues with a clients pc. I spent hours trawling the internet with no joy and was a gnats hair from reccomending a reinstall when I found this.
Go to device manager and in view show hidden devices.
Uninstall any devices that are highlighted, this one had DHCP and TCIP marked.
After a restart the problem was solved. It only took a few minutes but many hours to find. You gotta love computers!
