Solved Network Troubleshooting Problem immediately returns

I just recently did a clean install for my new SSD on my alienware m11x and have been having problems with inconsistent download speeds. I made sure I had all the correct drivers and was pretty thorough in doing so (to the best of my knowledge.) After a week or so of no luck, I think I may have stumbled upon the source of the problem. I troubleshooted my wireless network adapter and it showed that it had fixed the problem. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I ran it again and it said that it had fixed the problem. Again, this was not the case.
TLDR;
Troubleshooting the error is not fixing the problem. What will!?

1. Look up your computer here for drivers: Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]
2. download the correct network drivers and save them to your computer
3. uninstall your current wireless network adapter software
4. install the recently downloaded one
5. enter the correct information into the install wizard, and post back if this fixes anything

This is assuming the wireless adapter is indeed the problem.
:info: To completely remove the previous wireless adapter software, use Revo uninstaller. This way, it will remove all files and may increase the chances that this will fix the problem.

I redownloaded the drivers and that doesn't seem to have changed anything. One bit of information that may help though is that my internet speeds are right where they should be when I use an ethernet cable.

The troubleshooter finds a problem and fixes it, or doesn't find a problem at all?

Do you know if the problem persists on another (trusted) network?

Look up network sharing settings>advanced settings and make sure your computer is set to be discovered. May have to wait around and see if someone else knows something about this problem...

The troubleshooter finds a problem and fixes it but the problem returns the next time I troubleshoot.

The problem persists on other networks.

Mike, look on that website for your network adapter driver, and see if a slightly older driver to replace the newer one works better. I had a very similar problem once where this did the trick. But before you do, make sure you check windows update and install all that needs to be installed.

Also, is the LAN connection working fine? So your wireless isn't doing well but LAN is?

IF you choose not to reset IE, you can try to delete temporary internet files in disk cleanup

I just downloaded in old driver in place of my new one and my download speeds skyrocketed to 25 Mbps. I checked a few times and the results repeated themselves. It seems as though the problem may be solved. You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

Cool! Sorry I didn't think of it sooner, Mike. I don't know what is up with some of these drivers these people are releasing. And you didn't even have to reset anything. Thats a good, healthy download speed too, I'm a bit jealous I get little more than 5Mbps :shock:

Ya, I must say it seems rather sloppy of a company to put out software like that and not attempt to correct their mistakes. What ISP are you using?

They don't have the fiber optic cabling in my area so I am limited in what I can have
