Networked Computers - can't save files on networked Computers

Three Computers on a home network.
Desktop in Office (Windows 7) . Wife's Laptop (Windows 7). My laptop ( Vista unfortunately). Norton Security Suite and all three. I have a network setup and a Homegroup established.

Everything was setup and working so that I could share files between all three. My wife was able to open a desktop file make changes and save it back to the desktop computer.

All of that changed. Now we get a message when trying to save the file. "You do not have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission".

I have given the entire "MY Documents" sharing permission to everyone.

I have checked everything. I have looked over all kinds of forums and nothing has worked.

I am to the point of doing a complete reinstall of Windows 7 on my Desktop. I have spent tens of hours on this.

Any ideas?

Disable Norton on the Desktop, see if that fixes it. If not try disabling it on the other computers.

Do this only for testing. Re-enable when done. If it fixes the problem then you need to look at Norton to see how to allow access from the other computers.

I tried that and still get the message. I had done that earlier on just the desktop and it didn't help. Just tried with both disabled and still not working. About a week ago I uninstalled Norton on the Desktop and it didn't help.

I can open the other computer's files but can save anything back to them

Hello,

Check the permissions on the Advanced sharing section as well. In Windows 7 you need to look at the sharing tab (Advanced Sharing>Permissions) and the security tab.

Also, have you changed your username or password recently? If so, this could also create the problem.

One problem is the Norton software. It is nothing but a resource HOG.
Even after uninstalling it is still installed. Norton has a special program that you need to run to really get rid of it.

You mentioned that you have a Home group set up for your network. The problem is that Vista may not work correctly in a Windows 7 Home group.

In general you would want to set up a Work group type of network after leaving the Home group.

There are ways to make the Home group work with different versions of Windows, the link below has a download that can show you how to set that up.

You may also need to allow for sharing through the Norton firewall. Norton can cause you many problems related to sharing if it's not set up correctly.
