Hello all,

I just registered a few minutes ago and I am in need of help on networking 7 and XP.

Heres the situation...

I just installed a 750GB HD on my Win7 computer and its main purpose is for media storage. Mainly iTunes. My wifes computer is running XP. The other day, I was successful in sharing the HD between the 2 computers. Whenever I would go to "My Network Places" on her XP, the HD would show up no problem and we were able to use the HD for iTunes.

I log onto both of our computers this morning and the share to the HD is gone and no where to be found on the XP computer. While in "My Network Places", I click on "View workgroup computers" and I get this message...

"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept."

Thats where im stumped. I have tried everything I can think of to share the HD between the two computers and nothing is working. I can access the internet no problem on the XP computer but it doesnt even see my 7 computer. When I go into "Network" from my Win7, I can see my wifes computer and I can access everything she is sharing. Basically, I can see her computer through mine but her computer wont even acknowledge my Win7 computers existence.

The weird part is that when I had it working the other day, it was working perfectly and never had any problems. We even had a shared External HD between the 2 of us for a while and I never had a problem like this so I am really out of ideas.

If anyone could help out with this, I would greatly appreciate it!

I am having the same problem but the otherway around, I have my own post on this. What I do know, for me at least, the wired computer can see the wireless one, but the wireless one cannot see the wired. In my case, XP sees 7 but 7 does not see XP. You might try plugging both into the router and see if that works, that will at least get you a start. For me it works if both computers are wired and not wireless. But I want it to work wireless, so I am still stuck. Also everyone says to make sure the workgroups are the same, you may have done this, but this is important. There are plenty of posts on how to that. It will be under control pannel, network settings computer name I think. Make sure the workgroup is the same on both computers.

I had this issue recently. I can usually get any network to function, but this XP machine was stubborn and invisible.

I realized after reading somewhere in here that "at least one shared folder must exist on either computer to be visible in the network folder". I assumed the XP clunker I got from my parents had at least one shared folder on it. Nope......Spent 2 days on that one....lol. Never intended to share from the XP laptop, so I never thought to verify that it had a shared folder. So I shared a folder and then....

This then led me to find out that my SERVER service in my XP machine was disabled. And set to manual start.
So I started it, then set the service to start automatically at boot up. As soon as it started both the XP machine and the the 7 machine were visible to eachother, as well as all the other Vista machines...all one good communicating family.

Might not help, but what the heck
