Can someone please help me or point me to a guide on how to enable/share a printer between a Win7 RC and a vista system?

I have a HP printer connected to my Win7 RC x64 system and it prints from my computer just fine. I pulled up the settings and told it I wanted to share the printer as "Win7HP" to make the name easy. Anyway when I went down to my roomates computer I didn't see the printer and if I try to click my computer name under his network window I get a pop up asking for a user name and a PW. What am I doing wrong? I would hate to have to install another partition of Vista x64 just so he can print using my printer.

When we had things set up before he never had to "log in" from his computer to access my printer.

Very fustraiting.

I am having the same problem. My printer is on Win 7 desktop. When I log in as admin on vista laptop, I can print to the network printer on Win 7. If I log in as regular user with admin, I cannot print to the printer.

But, if I open explorer and navagate to network, the Win 7 computer, then I get request for login. When I login I can then print to the Win 7 printer.

I would like to be able to allow non admin user to print to the printer on the Win 7 computer, but do not desire to give him password.

Any suggestions?

Not sure if it will help you or not but I finally got things working, at least for now.

First thing I did was go to Control Panel - Network and sharing Center. From there I clicked the "Change Advanced Sharing" option on the left. At that screen if you go down a bit there is an option for "Password protected sharing" and you have 2 choices, to either turn it on or off. I turned it off.

Then I went to notepad and opened a txt file and told it to print. In the screen that opens where you select the printer, if it isnt already showing as an option then select "Find Printer". Then it will locate the networked printer. If it gives you a message about needing a driver then go to the web site for your printer and download the right driver. Install it and Viola!!!

This at least worked for me, hope it helps you too.

I got mine working also, but I added user account to the Win 7 system, same log and password as the laptop user account and it works now. I probably could have done as you say without adding user account to the Win 7 system, but is seems either way would work.
Thanks.
