Hi

I've been trying to connect two Win7 computers together with mixed results. One is a PC the other a laptop and they are connected wirelessly via a Linksys router which has the latest firmware.

For starters Homegroup does not work. I can set up a Homegroup but the other computer will never find it. I have been through the process several times following the MS instructions to the letter and read many forum posts. Nothing I have read or done indicates a user configuration error. It just does not work. I need to check for sure but I think the router might not support IP6 or something.

So I moved on to using just standard Windows networking which would be fine. I can ping each computer fine, the IP config is set up fine, they both have the same Workgroup etc. So I share some folders and a printer and this works perfectly....for a day and then suddenly stops working. This situation repeats itself ad nauseum. This can happen right in the middle of usage or on restart. I can get it working again by rebooting the router.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Uncheck Internet Address IPv6 ... the router's probably puking on it.
If the linksys router is a wrt54g ... get rid of it.

One thing to try - as you are using an "N" router - if your laptop is not "N" compatible It may be worthwhile limiting the router to "g" only. It may be nothing but I have seen these type of incompatibilities cause random dropouts. you could also try changing the channel number to the same on both the router and the laptop to discount interference

Xirrus do a free application that will show the channel number of any other local Networks
