New Build - BSOD while idle

Hi,

This is my first build. I am getting a BSOD about every 30 minutes while idle. I have run 4 passes of both MemTest86 and MemTest86+ without any errors. I have removed the Gigabyte software, the Sandisk SSD Dashboard, and the LG firmware update utility.

Attach are the system and dump files.

Thanks for any help.

Tom

Hello TomB51 and welcome to Sevenforums! :)

Your latest BSOD was probably caused by outdated Intel Graphics and DirectX drivers, so I would recommend heading over here and download and install the latest drivers for Intel VGA:
GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1150 - GA-H97M-D3H (rev. 1.0)

You also got a 0x124 which points to bad hardware, so I would recommend that you test the CPU with Prime95:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100352-hardware-stress-test-prime95.html

and the RAM with Memtest86+:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

There is also a BIOS update but we will have that as a last resort.

You also had a crash because of Norton Security Suite so I would recommend you uninstall it and install MSE:
Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows

Cheers /Boris :)

On my system description, I forgot to put in Rev 1.1 on the motherboard, since corrected.

I have installed the new drivers for the motherboard (Rev 1.1).

I have changed the anti-virus software.

I ran 4 passes of MemTest86+ the other day without any errors.

I started running Prime95. SpreedFan quickly showed temps of 90C to 95C for Core 0, Core 1 and Temp3 so I stopped it. From what I've read, this seemed extreme. Should I be doing something about this?

Thanks very much for your help.

Tom

Hi Tom.

Oh alright well thanks for updating!

Well I think you have a heating issue, especially with your CPU.

What kind of cooler do you have? Do you have one of those tiny ones that are bundled with the CPU or an aftermarket one?

Here is an update on my problem.

I read on Tom's Hardware to run Prime95 v26.6 instead of the latest version. I ran small FFT's for 10 minutes. The core temps peaked at 73C but mainly stayed 70C-71C. So I am waiting to get a new cooler for now.

The last BSOD occurred Monday morning. Since then Windows was giving problems. Windows Explorer locked up a couple of times. One time I couldn't log in after the system went to sleep. There were a couple of other problems so I reinstalled Windows yesterday. Now I am waiting to see what happens.

Thanks for help.

Tom
