New build BSOD

Hello all! I'm new to the forums but I've lurked here a bit in the past few days looking for an answer to my BSOD prob. It seems random, I can't really reproduce the problem. All hardware is brand new minus the optical drive. For anti virus im using avast and spybot.

- 64bit Windows7 Home Prem
- Installed on a Clean Harddrive
- OEM Version
- Self Built Computer
- System is about 10 days old.
- OS installation is also 10 days old.

system is:

amd phenom II x6
ASUS mobo - m4a89gtd pro/usb3
nvidia geforce GTS 450
8gb ram
300gb WD Raptor hdd

I noticed on one of your latest crashes you where playing Starcraft 2 Nice!!

Thus far your Dumps are pointing to MEMORY_CORRUPTION and MEMORY_MANAGEMENT which could be a bad driver, However i think you may have a bad stick of ram. Your drivers are all july 13th 2009 Or newer

SO i would like to start by running a memtest86+ This could take 6 to 8 hours making 7 passes. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

Post Back with results, and we will go from there.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes I do play the SC2 from time to time and no, I am not good ...

I have run this memtest86+ before but not for that long. I am about to turn in for the night and will run it till morning (should be about 7 hours for me).

I hope to bring some more info tommorow...

Great! once you run it we can then determine if its your memory or some system driver acting up Goodnight, ill look for your post in the morning..

After running memtest86+ all night I had 3 errors. I don't really know if theres anything technical that you would need from that and I can run it again to duplicate that and try to get some of the info so we can determine if it is the memory.

also i am curious how having the wrong ram type in there can affect this. I don't believe it to be wildly off but i am noticing now that when i go to newegg my ram isn't in the list for my exact mobo. But it also says on the page for the ram i bought that its only available through a combo deal so maybe its not coming up. And if i research compatibility through the corsair site it doesn't have the exact mobo model number listed so i don't know.

Ideally you want to go to your Motherboard website, and check the ram compatibility there. Typically your better ram like Corsair, Gskill, etc is typically Good for just about any board. But anytime you build a system you want to make sure the motherboard recommends that memory.

What your looking for is Your memory being under the Qualified vendor list.

And i would be willing to bet, since this build is new, its going to be that memory being the reason you BSOD. Without knowing more of the details in the memtest its hard to say for sure what the problem is. But if you had any error's thats not good.

Well just as i suspect my ram isnt on the list.

I got Corsair DDR3 1333 8GB (2X 4gb) - model CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 - which seemed to meet the specs from the motherboard when i bought it but now doesn't seem to be on their list.

But i also get some errors from the ram test (image attached)

So now should I return the ram and get different ram or more of the same? I guess I'm still not 100% everything I'm reading about compatibility is up to date.

Well it may very well be possible to update your bios to the latest one, and get more compatibility Options. But typically it looks like both sticks of memory are producing errors, Which tells me that both sticks of ram need to be replaced for appropriate performance. Thats why they created the Qualified Vendor List for Memory.

It used to not be such a big deal, you could just get your typical ddr 3200 or what have you. But now motherboard manufactures want you buying the best memory for the best performance per motherboard.

You can attempt to swap the sticks of memory from each other and re-seat them updating the bios (if there is a new bios version) and run memtest again tonight. And see what we get. But odds are you may need to replace the ram with one on the Qualified Vendor List.

Typically we could go into memory timings, and Checking PSU for the right amount of power, But seeing as this is a NEW Build and your PSU is 700Watts i wouldnt suspect power being the issue, and memory timings shouldn't have to be adjusted.

And after looking at the QVL I see that there are only 2 or 3 choices for 2 sticks of 4gb ram (I wanted to max out the board to 16gb and there are 4 slots) so that means that its "hard" to find the ram I want for this mobo.

I think I will exchange both the ram and the board for something different. That is AFTER spending some quality time with that vendors QVL.
