OK, that's good, lets us see what the RAM testing turns up. Yes please test all RAM individually in each slot, I think your board has 4?

I also lean toward a bad board but I don't know if that would prevent the SP1 installation.

Maybe it's having problems accessing memory from slot 4? Causing bsod?

And yes the board has 4 slots, should I test dimm 1 and 3 also even tho I wasn't using those slots?

It may be, all the RAM is controlled from the CPU Internal Memory Controller (IMC) but the board has the circuits for the RAM. The slot "wiring" is all inter connected somehow through some 960 contacts for four slots.
Running the single stick in each slot should help pin-point the problem. Test all four please.

Ok, so to recap,

The first test I ran with Stick 1 in DIMM 2 and Stick 2 in DIMM 4, got 2 errors on pass 3 and 1 error on pass 5

Next

I tested stick 1 DIMM 2 and stick 2 in DIMM 2, both for more than 8 passes, both tested fine.

Next

I tested Stick 2 in DIMM 4 for 33 passes overnight, this tested fine as well.

Currently running stick 1 in DIMM 4. Will post back with results.

On a side note, is it possible to get a false positive on these? Fluke errors? Because so far all the other tests are coming back fine.

So I left it testing over the weekend in DIMM 1, 88 passes, no errors. Testing in dimm 4 now.

Is it possible to only get the errors when the ram is running in dual channel only?

So dimm 4 tested no errors. I wanted to give installing some updates a try with 1 stick in and see what happens, so far I was able to get 3.5.1 and 4.0 .net framework to install without issue, I am in the process of trying sp1 with 1 stick in dimm 4. So far its going, its about half way through, I'll post back if it does work or it doesn't.

The ram came in a set, g-skill ripjaws. 2x4gb dual channel

At this point im ready to send the board and the ram back and hope that resolves the issue.

This would/should validate the RAM being OK.

You could, if ya want, try them both in slot 1 and 3 even though not the recommended ones and test. I suspect you will get errors.
I've had real poor luck with MSI products, others have good.

This is my first experience with MSI, I've never bought from them before, I was able to get sp1 installed with just the 1 stick dimm 4, I'm going to try and see what happens when I put in both sticks.

I'm at a loss here guys, it seems like I only get the errors when both sticks are in, that is the only time I was able to get any errors, the ram and been extensively tested using only 1 sick at a time in each slot, I was not able to replicate the errors.

If I put both in and get errors, it would be your opinion that it's the board? I can't think of anything else.

That's my take on it, since both sticks pass by themselves so should be fine. I'd would like to see a memtest with slots 1 and 3, if you're up to it. Both stick with errors should be a bad board.

Sure why not, I've already left my office so I won't be able to put the test to run until tomorrow. But on a good note, I've been able to install almost all the windows updates, they are installing as we speak. Sp1 installed just fine with 1 stick.
