By now, we're all used to installing new builds and setting up our OS to our liking.

I'd like to see what other settings and fine tuning others are doing, to get it just the way we like it. Not software installs, there's another thread for that, I'm just asking about basic settings.

Here are my insta-tweaks once I fresh install and first boot;

1 - Disable Page file (delete pagefile.sys)
2 - Disable Sleep (delete hiberfil.sys)
3 - Add a few ENV variables to my config (browser, proxy, etc)
4 - Uninstall the otherwise uselss stuff I don't need with the OS.
5 - Instal Nod 32 v4.01 x64
6 - Copy Faves folder.
7 - Drivers (usually only ATI and Dell drivers) and remove/adjust services.
8 - Setup User account (Avatar, name, etc.)
9 - Updates from Windows Update
10 - Desktop wallpaper ;)

With the next leak, I'm going to use vLite to build a custom OS installation CD.

Me, the first thing I do (on Windows 7) is turn up UAC to it's top setting, so that it operates exactly like it does in Windows Vista. That's the way I like it.

Then I install any required drivers, which I must say with Windows 7 is not such a difficult task, as so far all builds I've used have installed everything for me except sound.

I then install Avast Anti-Virus before I go online to activate.

After all that, I begin installing my apps, usually in order of priority, such as Delphi RAD Studio 2009, Delphi Components, CorelDraw X4 then Office 2007. Then it's just the utilities like Handbrake, WinZip and others...

I would never ever vLite "Unstable" and under development OS. Anyway, vLiting so complex system like Vista or 7 brings more problems than benefits. Wake up buddy, this is not XP junk anymore.
