I know this has been talked about a million times and I've read them all but I still cannot get Win7 to see my HD.

This is my first build so bear with me being a little new to this.

Gigabyte H55M-UD2H
Intel Core i3 530
4GB (2x2GB) Kingston Ram
LG SATA DVDRW
Hitachi 500GB Deskstar SATA
Thermaltake 600W PS
Apevia Fans/Case
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

I can see the HD listed in the Bios. Ive tried both IDE and AHCI, and Ive tried HPET mode in 32 and 64 Bit.

Ive tried reconnecting the hard drive.

Still cannot see the hd in the installer.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Perhaps the drive is not formatted yet? In this case, just let it install and everything will be taken care of automatically.

I wish I knew for sure, but is this a new hard drive?

If you have tried pre-formatting the drive, I do not know why Win 7 cannot see it. The only time this happened to me was the drive was bad.

There is a tutorial here about Win 7 not recognizing the HD, but I can't check without loosing this response.

It is a brand new hard drive, and I did not reformat it at all.

I cannot proceed to let things install because I cant select a drive there is nothing listed in the installer where it asks me to select a partition.

Set the bios to IDE mode. With the pc off, connect the SATA cable to another port then turn on pc and try again.

Hard drives need to be initialized upon install. If you were not prompted to initialize it, try reinstalling it.

See if the drive is recognized in Diskpart. Boot up the Windows DVD, and press Shift+F10 when you get to the language screen.

Then type the following:

diskpart

list disk

Does your drive show up?

Have you tried installing the SATA drivers? You need to press F6 at the very beginning of the install to be able to install those. Download the drivers from the manufacturer's website or you might already have got a CD with the drivers there.

I got it solved.

I created a boot disk from ultimatebootcd.com

I was then able to create a partition and set the hd as active. Windows then was able to see it and the rest went smooth.

Thanks for the help

partition cannot be seen

Is the partition Primary and formatted with NTFS?

yea its primary partition but the format is fat32 reason being when i used bootcamp it only formats in fat32 only, it doesn't show any option for saving the partition as Ntfs or fat32
