For interest -
I just bolted the following together. I want it for other purposes but it looks like a gaming machine!
Budget: $1500 (came very close)

Case: Lian Li Lancool PC-K60 (2 top 140mm exhaust fans; 1x140mm bottom intake, 1x120mm exhaust)
PSU: Seasonic M12 II 80 Plus - 520W
CPU: i7 2600k
Motherboard: AUSUS P8Z68 Deluxe
Graphics: NvidiaGeForce GTS450
Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws-X 8G Kit(4Gx2) DDR3 1600
HDD: Seagate Baracuda 1TB (to start)
DVD/CD: LG Super Multi Blue CH10. BD-ROM, DVD Rewriter
OS: Windows 7 x64 Home Premium
Monitor: LED 24" LG E24411V
Keyboard: Undecided!
Want wireless keyboard but wireless mouse doesn't seem adequate for
fine photo retouching. Any suggestions.

WEI-
Processor: 7.6
Memory: 7.8
Graphics: 7.2
Gaming Graphics: 7.2
Primary HDD: 5.9

Motherboard was probably an overkill.

PS: Macrium linux boot disk doesn't work on it.

For editing images I prefer a Pen Tablet, I currently use a Wacom Intuos4 Large seen here
Intuos4 Large
Much more expensive than a mouse but I find it outstanding for my needs with Photoshop CS5.

I'm obsessed with monitor quality. Can't seem to find your LG. Is it a TN or an IPS panel?

It's a TN ~$200. I'd like an IPS panel because I do some amateur photography and use Photoshop. But IPS panels are much more expensive - I'm struggling with the decision!

@linnemeyerhere
Thanks I'll have a look at that one.
I bought a MS Destop 3000 (not that cheap). The keyboard felt cheap and the wireless mouse was totally useless. Luckily the store had a good refund policy.
I mainly want the wireless keyboard to put it easily out of the way to use deskspace when needed.

Great build, but the mobo as you say was probably a bit of an overkill. :p Anyway, an SSD would be nice wouldn't it? Perhaps a small one, just for the OS. That way, you can boot your WEI up to something up in the high 6s or maybe even 7s.

I really don't know. I've heard it may be related to the Intel i series Sandy Bridge processors. I haven't got a clue why this should affect things.

A solution is to build a pe disk. I use the easier solution of the Macrium pe built into the Hirens Boot CD.

while I'm here
I picked up a Logitech MK520 combination wireless keyboard and mouse for $65. I'd highly recommend it. High quality and accurate mouse tracking.
