Ok mate sorry late reply was really quite sick yesterday - at least you tried. Just so I have it right the test do you mean the meter? cos they really are very cheap to buy.

Now I appreciate that it is a hard for a lot of folks to do it but have you considered a build?? with a different board and CPU - I prefer Intel but there are still some good AMD ones at reasonable prices. The other components like the PSU (although I would personally buy new) the GPU sound card or whatever you have on the current board you already have.

Now the only complication with that suggestion is the activation code for the current OS being tied to the board you are on now. I have in the past phoned Microsoft and let them know a board has died and I needed to get a new one and I have never been refused to use the code from the old board onto the new one. But like I said it is your budget of course.

yep, i just don't have the money for it, and i wouldn't wanna buy something that's gonna perform the same as my setup now, with the stuff that comes 3 years from now.

Ok mate I am sincerely unhappy for your predicament if I lived closer I could possibly help you out with bits and pieces as I have been at this for some years now well actually since I was about 5 when I was first intrigued by the glowing vacuum tubes in my grandfathers acid battery driven wireless set - radio as we knew them then back in England. But enough of my blathering on suffice to say I am smitten with electronics - yet no expert

But on the subject at hand that DVD you have is it an OEM or a retail copy?? I ask because if it is an OEM then when it was first installed on that board the activation code would have been tied to the board for good it cannot be used on another board/machine without express permission from Microsoft as I described. The code is actually stored somewhere on the board and I have an idea usually within the BIOS chip at least it was from Windows 8 on if I am not terribly mistaken. If on the other hand it is a retail copy then it can be used for around 3-4 installs but only one machine at a time, for example you could not install it on your laptop and your desktop at the same time it can only be one of them, and it can be installed more than once as long as the machine is the only one you are installing it to.
It should say (sometimes) on the disk itself what it is and definitely on the sticker which would have come with the DVD. see pics

So let us know what version you have OEM or retail.

i'm pretty sure its' retail (i don't have the thingy the cd was in anymore)
also, since the last time i said i got bsods i didn't get any, so maybe it really is totally random, today i'm reinstalling photoshop to see if it's related.
something more interesting, perhaps, is that at startup, when the windows logo appears, 8 out of 10 times at the first startup it looks somewhat distorted and after loading (the loading circle indicator is also distorted) the screen is black, nothing happens, but after rebooting it (without shutting it down) everything works just fine.
i didn't want to say this sooner cause i've been trying to get a picture of the distorted loading screen, but i either forget or i'm too slow.
this however makes me think it's either the psu giving up on life and as i said earlier, perhaps not related, but i wouldn't know enough to decide.

Ok well until you can test that PSU we cannot assume it is that my other thought is the hard drive going south.
Now another thing I am still thinking is the RAM 3GB is about as minimum as you need if you are going to do graphical stuff.

Now without wading way back through the thread have we done a test of the hard drive? If not then it might be worth giving threse two a go
SeaTools | Seagate and also a surface test with this Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free - see my pic for how to do it. This will test the actual surface and read / write heads and actuating arms in a spinner.

you recommended me testing my hdd with those tools about 2 pages ago, and i did only test it with sea tools.
i'll give the second tool a try when my pc gets some free time.
