New CPU.

Hello. I've been using windows 7 32 bits for months, with a pentium 4 CPU 3,20ghz @ 3,7Ghz. Like 2 days ago i upgraded to Pentium Dual core E2180 2,0GHz @ 2,6Ghz, and an issue showed up.

The problem is that when i turn off my computer from start menu, it shuts down and screen turns black, but all the fans on my PC still run, and i have to hold down power button to shut it down. And there is an error message also, when i turn on my pc, Intel CPU uCode loading error, i press F1 and everything runs great.
I reinstalled windows, same problem.

Just out of curiosity, did you reinstall Windows after upgrading the CPU?

Did you overclock the CPU before, or after a clean install?

If this is an older system, your board might be compatible with Dual core CPU's, but you might still need to update the drivers and BIOS. Please fill in your System Specs so we know what your computer is. Also if you can fill in your motherboard info as this would be the most important.

you can use CPUID to tell you what hardware you have in your system if you cant find something.

What is the make and full model number of your motherboard? Just because a CPU will fit in your board doesn't necessarily mean that it is going to work correctly in it. In some cases, the CPU is not supported at all. In others, it is supported, but only if the BIOS version is equal to or newer than a specified revision.

Oh and it say in the manual it supports core duo and quads to. probably bios ?

Everything looked good in CPUID, except the core voltage for your CPU seemed to be a bit low. You may want to try installing Windows 7 with the bios defaults loaded, then overclock. Personally, I always do a barebones clean install [1 HDD, and one stick of RAM] and then add the rest of the hardware, and overclock afterward. If that doesn't work, I'll bet it's software related. Probably need to update the BIOS.

Out of curiosity, are using the motherboard manufacture's chipset drivers, or Windows?

That's what I do too. Usually the chipset drivers that come with your board are outdated anyway. So you should be good to go there. I would try the default settings in BIOS, do a clean barebones install, and check for stability. Then overclock.

The reason it's not shutting down on it's own is because of an issue. So no, there is no setting for this. Hence why we're trying to help you troubleshoot it

As for your drivers, you should be getting the latest drivers available from the manufacturers of the specific hardware. Very few drivers through Windows Update are decent. They're meant to be placeholder drivers until you get the original drivers. (Edit: This is true for the important drivers such as video card, audio, chipset or any other major piece of equipment. Network adapters and modems etc are fine using Windows Update drivers.)

Now that you mention it, I just remembered there is a setting in power options for the power off button. You might want to see what's up in there. I would be shocked if it's somehow set to something other than power off though. But it's worth a shot.

NVM i solved it myself. The bios was kinda old, 0110, so i ubdated to the lastest one 0802. And everything works fine now, it even reads all my 4 gigs of ram.
