I don't know much about PC spec basics. I just am looking for a guide to buying a desktop that has 8 GB RAM, a fast dual-core processor, and the potential for upgraded graphics card for solid gaming performance. Mid range, but not best of the best. Does any useable machine today exist on the market.

Yes. I have a HP Pavilion p6387c (Any different p6000 series PC will do) and it is a great starter PC. It has 7GB of RAM, and a pretty new (Although at it's end of life) and solid dual-core Intel Pentium E6300. The PC is great for upgrading, and is cheap on eBay. Although watch out for the hard drive! After 5-7 years, a mechanical hard drive can and will fail. Super-strong magnets become faulty, heads crash into other components, circuits die out, or the spinning motor fails or the bearings are too worn to spin. I recommend buying a Western Digital Blue hard drive. They're reliable, cheap ($54.99), and spacey. Then buy a Windows 7 Starter (So you can get Windows 10 Home, it's a lot cheaper then getting Home Premium just to get the same product.(Windows 10 is free, by the way, if you have the proper updates and Windows 7 or 8, but 7 is cheaper.)) MAKE SURE TO GET THE 64-BIT VERSION OR ELSE BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN.

You also want a USB network adapter, because it doesn't come with that. I just got a cheap Belkin Wireless Adapter, and it does the job.

If you want something on the market right now, I would recommend the Digital Storm Vanquish 4. It's already good for gaming and just under $900.

For an even cheaper option, get a Dell Inspiron Small Desktop- whichever you like. But beware ungodly amounts of bloatware and abysmal customer service!

If you don't like that, go on Google and search "dell", and on the side, under "People also searched for", just browse all of those sites and you'll find a desktop that's right for you.

You're probably not going to do a lot of gaming or at least newer games with a dual processor
Most would be best with a quad core or 6/ 8 core so quad would be a bare minimum imho

First thing you should post is a budget to not waste suggestions but imho 1500.us can get you a pretty good gamer.

Your region would also be a nice addition to know ;)

I know about that, dual-core is bad now, but it just needs an upgrade or two and it's a gaming beast:

-Processor swap: Get out that Pentium E6300 and move in an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (Quad core and the last LGA775 processor!)

- GPU upgrade: Who said they ever wanted an integrated Intel G43 card!? Get an EVGA GeForce GT 470 (4GB) in there!

-Hard drive swap (For reliability reasons) WD Black 1TB. It's cheap and fast (Compared to other hard disks)

-PSU swap: You're crazy starting up that computer with all those upgrades on it yet! The 250W PSU cannot handle that. I recommend 500W at least.

-OS: I don't see any issues with Windows 10 Home for gaming. Get Windows 7 Starter to save money! (Free upgrade to Windows 10, and the reason I said Starter is because Home Basic and Home Premium are more expensive, and they both get the same free Windows 10 Home upgrade too.) The Pentium and Core 2 are 64-bit processors! If they make x64 Windows 7 Starter, get it! Plus, the computer has 7GB of ram, and that will cause Setup to fail.

All of that costs about $400, about HALF the cost of a new computer!

He lives in America. I can tell because the site tells you their local time and other stuff under their name, and his time is an hour before mine. So what's the budget?

I prefer just buying a PC or upgrade an existing one. It's less work, and I'm not good with assembling computers, more just taking a few pieces off, replacing some of them, and putting the rest back together. Also, I like the looks of the cases on pre-made computers often. (Desktops by Digital Storm or Gaming Laptops Custom Built by Digital Storm)

Hello there,

I'm not from US and don't know the exact prices for the pieces of the pc, but I can suggest something.

I'd choose something like this:
B85 motherboard (~80 euro)
Pentium G3250 (~50)
1TB Western Digital Blue EZEX drive (~40)
120GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD (~80)
Some good PSU, 600W so you can put more powefulll CPU and GPU after (~70)
2 x 4GB Kingston Fury 1600MHz (~50)
Graphic card Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 with 2GB. (~200)
Case from your choise.

This should be enough for some casual gaming, of course not HC gaming. In that case, you'll neeed to change the CPU with some i5 CPU, and some x70,80 GPU.

Hope that helped some.

Boshko.
