I have the latest version of Firefox installed 51.0.1 and I have a major problem with it. I have always used Google as my search engine but Firefox now wants to use Yahoo all the time. Just my opinion but Yahoo is rubbish! I want to set Firefox to use Google as my default search engine but have been unable to do that. I have even went so far as to remove every other search engine other than Google from the drop down box but every time I start Firefox again Yahoo is back along with something called Poweriso Search Engine which I have never heard tell of. How can I set Google as my default search engine on this version of Firefox? I would go as far as to say if I'm going to be forced to use Yahoo I will be moving away from Firefox!

If I had your problem on my systems I would use this free program.

Malwarebytes | AdwCleaner

Jack

I'll probably run Malwarebytes during the night as it takes hours and stops you using the computer for anything else. Might actually download a fresh copy as it seems to have got slower over the years. Not sure if I still have Adwcleaner but if not I'll download and try it first. Thanks.

Malwarebytes is the new owner of AdwCleaner.
AdwCleaner is a small program and it only takes about a minute to download and about 2 to 3 minutes to run.

Another nice tool I use is JRT.

I ran the Adwcleaner but it didn't make any difference I'm afraid. I'll look at that JRT and give it a go later.

Just a further update. I checked again after rebooting and it appears that JRT has actually did the trick so thanks for that. If I can just get Windows Live Mail to show images in emails again I'll be back to normal!

I don't use WLM personally. Check this thread:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ive-mail/4f8812e0-c0b3-4a9f-bb35-522c61b25049

Also support for WLM has ended:

Windows Essentials 2012 suite end of support on January 10th 2017

So you will need another email client soon anyway.

Well no. Just because support has ended doesn't mean the program stops working. To be honest I have never received support from Microsoft in my life for anything so it hardly makes and odds that they have ended support for Live Mail. Thanks for that link, but as you can see from my original post I have already tried this and it doesn't work.

Okay it's your data at risk and your choice. Of course you can keep using it until it breaks.

What happens to my already installed Windows Essentials 2012 applications?
Already installed applications will continue to work as they do today. There is an increased security risk associated with use of unsupported products past their end of support date.

Can I still use Windows Live Mail?
Yes. Though, some email service providers have moved to newer email protocols for improved security and reliability not supported by Windows Live Mail. These email service providers may no longer work.

End of support means Windows Live Mail will no longer receive software updates from Windows Update. These include security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software, which can steal your personal information. Windows Update will no longer install the latest software updates to improve the reliability of Windows Live Mail.

Which is what I plan to do and then I'll probably move away from Windows altogether because I'm sick of it. 'End of support means Windows Live Mail will no longer receive software updates from Windows Update.' Surely that's a bonus. Every time Windows come up with a new operating system in a matter of months it ends up like a patchwork quilt! So the fact that they are going to be installing one less 'update' is good news.
Listen I'm happy with Live Mail and all I want to do is try and get the images to work again in emails. I'm not interested in switching to some other email provider. When that time comes I have all my data backed up and as I say I'll probably switch to Mac or Linux.
