New free system imaging program

Haven't made one for 32 bit yet.

Will get around to it when I can .

If you are using 32 bit win 7 - you are in luck - there will the option to include tons of stuff.

Not just macrium v5 , but also easeus TODO new free v3 will run beautifully, as well as apps. like paragon, partition wizard, Easeus partition master, easeus data recovery wizard, MT data recovery, etc.

Any requests as to the apps you want to have ion your pe3 media?

Maybe a malware scanner like MalwareBytes AntiMalware?
Partition Wizard already has a bootable CD so I can't think of anything else at the moment. Maybe a small portable text editor? Don't know which editor would be best but simpler is better if your system is hosed. :)

Another may be ERUNT related apps for registry recovery. I auto backup the registry with ERUNT every day.

I'm sorry, but I've lost track of EaseUS ToDo in all this talk about Macrium (yes I am guilty of some of it):

Does EaseUS come with USB3.0 drivers out-of-box? If not, they can be added (how)?

Running W7HPx64 myself; and I have Renesas drivers on this computer...

I tried it on the PC in my specs. It recognized my SIIG USB 3.0 card and docking stations. Just made the Linux boot CD without doing anything special. I just booted and looked around to make sure I could see my drives in the docks. I haven't tested the restore. But it sees them fine from the Linux boot.

PUP = Potentially Unwanted Program. It could be false positive. I'll check out the Malwarebytes forums and see what I can find.

Mmm. Not conclusive...there are some FP's for PSWTool.ProduKey.exe, but associated with Nirsoft. Perhaps submit it to Malwarebytes, and see what they say?

Off the specific app in question which was a grateful freebie and particularly unlikely to have malware!

Maybe a security person could explain to me why these sort of apps are prone to FPs. Malwarebytes gave one, NIS2011 wagged it's tail and said fine.

Hi mj,

I am no security expert, but here is why, roughly.

When you scan a file ( in this case an executable) , the a/v will check which modules it loads and the calls it is capable of making.

They use different algorithms so results will vary. Some will compare what they think might be dangerous against their own white list - of course the a/v developer has to know an app. to put it on the white list in the first place.

Coincidentally, I saw Windows Defender in action for the first time just the other day.

It popped up warning about a possibly suspicious app. Link for more info went to MS site, where they confirmed it as an FP. ( That was different app. - not produkey )

Just tried a test.

Easeus performed remarkably.

1. Imaged a 28gb o/s partition ( 21gb used ) to another partition on the same drive.

Took 6mins 48 seconds. Image size 12gb.

EASEUS-IN-PE31-2.jpg

Much better than I expected.

2. Shrank the original partition a little to test how well it restored to a smaller drive.

It allows resizing during restore - down as well as up. ( Obviously the minimum is the used space in the image )

EASEUS-IN-PE31-4.jpg
No problem at all - took exactly the same time and worked perfectly.

EASEUS-IN-PE31-3.jpg

Strange it doesn't allow mounting with the pe component.

Unlikely to be needed, but odd .

Both operations from pe3 media.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're saying here. It appears that from your Windows Desktop you recovered an image of a C:\ partition to another drive labeled K:\

But you're saying that desktop is the PE environment? By "doesn't allow mounting" you mean...what that having booted your PC to the PE environment you can't mount-and-examine/extract individual files?

From the pics alone that desktop looks like Win7 so I'm confused.

Hi Max,

1. That is one of my custom pe3 builds I made.

It has full windows explorer with themes, thumbnails, audio, video, etc.

It looks like a regular windows 7.

2.
By "doesn't allow mounting" you mean...what that having booted your PC to the PE environment you can't mount-and-examine/extract individual files?

Yes, that is correct. With Easeus pe component , the mount option is greyed out.

I assume that is because you need some kind of Explorer to see a mounted image. You don't get that in a standard winpe recovery environment made from WAIK .

Some imaging companies therefore make their own explorer, which they include in their pe component.

Macrium has it's own explorer. Not especially marvelous, but it does the job.

Paragon doesn't need a separate explorer as it has it' own file system drivers and you can view image contents within the paragon app interface.

3.
It appears that from your Windows Desktop you recovered an image of a C:\ partition to another drive labeled K:\

Don't worry about the drive letters. That is the same partition.

Drive letters are different depending on where you are looking at the drive from.

It is always best to double check you are restoring to the right place by the drive Label ( i.e. the name ) and the size.

4. Easeus can mount in pe3 - very well and quickly - I have tricked it into doing so. They must have disabled it deliberately.

5. I have asked if there is a permanent method of doing that.

Of course, and I missed that completely i.e. the pics looked like full W7 so I got lost w/the PE comment. I understand now.

I like the idea of you App.
It would have been so much better if I had seen this topic before downloading and burning to DVD and installing the WAIK ! ! !
Next I have to uninstall WAIK and hope it comes out clean.

Easeus ToDo seems O.K. under Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit for which I downloaded KB3AIK_EN.iso

I am now working on a friend's 32 bit Vista.
Will your App work on that ?
Or can I re-use the KB3AIK_EN.iso installation DVD.

Regards
Alan

Hi Alan ,

No, my app. needs dism - it isn't included in Vista.

You will be able to install WAIK on Vista and then Todo will be able to make it's own winpe media.

However, you don't need to.

If you already made Todo pe media - just make a copy and give it to your friend.

Why do you see the need to uninstall it?

It's enormous and he probably won't want to use it again.
