New hard drive problem

Hi,
I have recently had some problems with my laptop and in the end of the story its hard drive died. So i bought a new 500gb samsung hard drive and it does not work properly. I have also got another laptop, it is not mine, but i can test everything with it.
So there i got 2 laptops and 2 hard drives - a new one and a working used one. When i put a used hard drive to my laptop whichs hard drive died, everything works - the windows boots up properly.
When i put the new hard drive to the same laptop, it offten wont load windows and when it does it just stays on starting windows splash and does not boot up.
When i put the new hard drive to another laptop from which i took the used hard drive, everything works perfectly.
How is that possible that one hard drive works on both laptops and the other one on only one of them?

My laptop did not even let me instal windows on to the new hard drive, it would get back to the start of instalation after first reboot. I had to instal windows using the other laptop.

My old hard drive which died was 250 gb seagate. Both laptops are Asus, mine is F5SL and the other ones model i can not remember right now, but it is slightly older.

Connect the new drive.

Boot into the bios.

Choose Default Settings.

Save,
Exit
boot up again.
All ok?

If not go back into the bios, and make sure that the boot order and the disk order is correct. Asus bioses are a little different so you may have to set one to boot first from Hard Disk, and then tell it which it hard disk.

when you install windows on a machine, it stays with that config... if you try to boot a windows drive with a machine that was not installed with, it may give you bsod...

try booting into safe mode see in which .sys it gets stuck

This is Win7. I've swapped drives in and out and never had any problems as long as I made sure that the bios settings were correct.

I have tried all the combinations of boot order, tried everything in bios and nothing.

And the hard drive which i was using and died had windows 7 and it was working well.

Have you checked with the mfg?

Is it possible that the drive is not compatible with your system? I noticed it has greater capacity and more important a greater spin rate which means a greater power drain.

Hi,
I have tried other brands of hard drives and they give the same result. I was wondering if there is some kind capacity restrictions on some bioses? My old hard drive was 250gb and the one that worked was also 250gb, the nerw one is 500gb

Could be a Bios or Motherboard limitation to size of HD recognized.

So after some time also tried 320gb hard drive which also did not work, tried 160gb - same, only the 120gb one worked ok. All of them were new.
