New hard drive...

My first post so apologies if this is the wrong area in which to ask the following ,basic. question.

About to upgrade from XP to Windows7 but wish to keep XP (read all the fantastic posts on the subject ) so am going to install a new HD and I am considering fitting the following: -
Western Digital WD6400AARS 640GB Hard Drive SATAII 64MB Cache - OEM Caviar Green


at present I have a WD 250GB of which 210GB is in use.

I also have a 500GB WD Caviar Green storage HD for back ups etc.

So any thoughts on the above?

Install the new hard drive in addition to the old one if you have room?

Also remember to unhook the other drives before installing Win 7, just for information i've seen other posts that the Green hd is not a good choice for an os, use either the blue or preferrably the Black

I agree. Make sure you have your Backup drive disconnected to prevent Win7 from accidently installing itself on it. I almost lost all of my backups when I initally installed Win7.

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. One more question should I also disconnect the 'C' drive that has XP and all my other software on it before installing 7 also?

Thanks for that I had indeed read that article but silly me did not connect it up in my mind - something to do with senior moments I guess!
