New Info release from MS on UPGRADE

Prolly a Glitch or something they are working on. But I remember them saying that upgrades were going to be like or higher versions. (i.e. No downgrading at all).

@Fakeasdf I remember them mentioning the upgrade paths when the announced the versions. (along with Business going back to Professional) I'll see what I can do to scrounge up a link .

I was referring the the RC upgrade paths. Seeing as they only released keys for Ultimate you couldn't activate a home premium RC. Is there some other information about upgrading from RC?

@Ohgami Where did you see that information? The site YupYup showed me did not show those options..

Well the activation info is recent and remains to be seen if that is the case, but ultimate to ultimate can definitely be upgraded without having to do a clean install.

From the news articles I've read Windows 7 RC To Windows 7 Final Upgrade | Windows 7 News they've stated upgrading would not work. (Unless you are referring to modifying cversion etc) Thanks for the matrix, that's what I was looking to share...

Oddly enough, according to that matrix, they MAKE you upgrade to Vista SP1/SP2 from Vista RTM or you can't upgrade in place LOL

It is a test matrix it may or may not represent the final version.

Exactly microsoft's left hand does not know what its right hand is doing and has contradicted itself already, so until the upgrade discs are tested i have my doubts about the activation.

You have to have SP1 installed before you can upgrade to SP2. That is the normal way. (That also can be bypassed). BLOG.MSDN also has posted exactly how to (bypass Win 7) the clean-upgrade mess if you want to.
What this means is "It is not the recommended way", but it surely is a LEGIT method. Whereas MS would not allow BLOG.MSDN.COM/E7 to publish it.

The biggest problem with all the CLEAN over UPGRADE is my ipinion over your opinion and then who the other people interpet what ea of us said.
I Snuffy have been an Official Beta Tester of MS products since Pre-Win 95. (FACT-but no big thing). Over the years, I have either been informed via MS or other methods by MVP's or whom ever, different way to approach a troublesome problem.
As for YOU WILL HAVE NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH UPGRADES.
I assume that person whom said that. CLEAN INSTALLS ever time MS releases a PATCH. or auto update. Makes no Since to me.
Actually this version 7264. was not suppose to be upgradeable(neither was 7106.Professional) (only a clean install allowed). BUNK- hockypuck. The original version (last clean install of Win 7, on my machine was Win 7 - 7000. I have upgraded every version since then. to 7264 which I am using NOW. (The only problem I have is this occasional popup from Office 2010. annoying little thing about plz activate me.

For the person who reads (several posts) and thinks WOW they are almost 100% different - Im sure your right. Ea has his own ideas, right or wrong. If is sat at a new computer and proved ea of the others wrong, they would say I CHEATED, or Well that will not work for me. So be it.

So I can't do a clean install with a Home Premium Upgrade disk from any of the betas since they are all the Ultimate version? Some say the installation process will ask you to insert a qualifying disk, others don't seem to think that's the case. I didn't use an upgrade disk with Vista, so I'm not sure how that went.

1st YES, you can do a Clean install from Home Premium Upgrade disk.

2nd The need for a qualifing disk is CRUD. select custom select clean DO NOT ENTER A KEY, (READ THE da*m POPUP).FROM THE MS STORE ON UPGRADE DISK

If you have Windows Vista, you can purchase Windows 7 Upgrade versions. You can do a clean install (back up your files, clean install, and reinstall your applications) or an in -place upgrade (Windows 7 installs over Windows Vista).
Running Earlier Versions? If you have Windows XP or Windows 2000, you can purchase Windows 7 Upgrade versions. But you must back up your files, clean install, and reinstall your applications.

Actually MS could care less if you have a LEGIT Pre-Version of WinME,XP, 2000 or Vista. They simply want you to BUY Win 7.

3ND The clean install WILL leave you A windows.old, where as then you can use easy transfer to move all your setting etc etc to Home Premium.

It is very simple, it will not be that hard, Buy the edition & version you want, RETAIL or Upgrade you can do either you want with either DISK. Clean or Upgrade. THE UPGRADE IS SIMPLY CHEAPER.

Yes you can upgrade (as in get the lower price) from windows XP, you cannot however upgrade in place. You need to perform a clean install, which will also make it necessary to reinstall all other applications.

The "Upgrade Option Program" is a completely different program intended to give you a free copy of windows 7 when you purchase a qualifying vista version or a new machine that comes with vista preinstalled. If you are looking to purchase a windows 7 upgrade disc you are looking in the wrong area, you will need to visit the microsoft store for your country or online retailer.
