While reinstalling 7 on a Acer Aspire 5200 series laptop the CD key was unreadable and I used the License key finder program to get the CD key. During install I opted for the register later with phone call. Installation went fine although the network driver didn't install but got the drivers for the item from Acer.

After all was done attempted the phone activation, no joy. Called them and spoke to Microsoft and after 3 people they would not activate it! Ended up reinstalling the factory crapware.

Why was the COA sticker unreadable. Had it been purposely obliterated? Have you owned this laptop since new?

Did you try to install the Key? It should work OK.

The key audited off of factory preinstalled Win7 will not work to activate Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 because it is a mass activation SLP key. MS provides the COA key for this purpose, so that you can reinstall WIn7 as you please without the crippling bloatware.

If MS Phone Activation will not help you with other info you provide to replace the key, then your best bet may be to go with Acer Recovery and then Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

There is also a method to back up factory SLP activation file to reinstall it after Clean Reinstall, but it is not supported here so would have to be researched on your own.

Your best option would be to simply start removing the factory software you don`t want, it will take no time at all, but be careful and don`t remove anything vital

Use CCleaner to cleanup the registry when you`re done.

Yes it was purchased new and the paper CD key just wore away. I will do factory install with the clean up. Thanks..
