Solved New Installation of Windows 7

Right guys,

i have a machine just been built with 1 x SSD and 1 x standard HDD,

Installed windows 7 on the SSD but then took off the standard drive to find that windows won't boot,

MISSING BOOTMGR !!!!

Found out that windows install the BOOTMGR on the second drive any ideas why????

That does happen, that's why it is usually advised to unplug all other drives when installing your OS.

we have tried to fix the bootmgr following the instructions

but when performing the fixboot or rebuildbcd it gives a response of:

Element Not Found

any help on this would be great

I take it that this a new MOBO.
Check your new MOBO for uEFI/BIOS firmware.

You need to do a clean install,
As the new MOBO's now have a uEFI BIOS.

This happened becuase the SSD was in SATA 2 or as windows states drive 1 and the hard drive was in SATA 1 or drive 0 as windows sees it. It is not really a probelem but it can be "fixed" by making sure yor SSD in in the first SATA port and running the repair option from the Windows DVD / USB untill it finds the windows install and adds the bootmanager. You could also add it manually by using the advanced tool EasyBCD - NeoSmart Technologies

WIth all drives attached, please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map and listings:

1. Type Disk Management in Start rb: Search box.
2. Open Disk Mgmt. window and maximize it.
3. Type Snipping Tool in Start Search box.
4. Open Snipping Tool, choose Rectangular Snip, click New, draw a box around full drive map and all listings.
5, Save Snip, attach using paper clip in Reply Box.

Tell us what is on each partition.

If Win7 still won't boot then with all other HD's unplugged Mark Active the 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred if you have it) or Win7 partition to run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times

Windows didn`t install it there, it was already there from the previous install. It`s called a system reserved partition and as long as there already is one, windows did not create another on your ssd. Did you get it booting ok ?

upon trying to repair the bootmgr issue, we have decided to just do a flat reinstall of the system with just the SSD drive connected, this sorted our issue out

Then why did you ask for help here, then ask again if there was anything else to try?

because we tried everything suggested and it didnt work so we had no other choice but to reinstall the system, not every fix works with every machine

but thanks to all who gave suggestions
