New MOBO suggestions

Hello all. I have a board thats dying quite rapidly, in fact just barely got it going again this morning


At any count, Im looking for some advice or suggestions on a new board.

At this point in time, a i7 system is out of price range. however, that will likely be a new build in the next 3-4 months.

For now, Im looking for a good socket 775 board for use with my current hardware, (CPU,RAM etc)


Im not crossfiring or have a RAID setup, But do want something that can support 4 DIMMS (8GB) of 1066 RAM & support all of my HDs in AHCI.

Seems socket 775 choices are quite slim but Im thinking about going with a Gigabyte such as:

Any thoughts or suggestions?
I also thought about a DDR3 version of the same board, but since planing a i7 machine by years end, may not be worth the effort.

I'd agree stick with using your current parts if you plan to upgrade soon. Your choice would suit you I'd think, here is the equivalent ASUS board:

I'm still in shock that you're giving up a DFI (love their boards, own(ed) 5). It's pretty hard to beat them up, and even a "bad" DFI is usually heaps better than most. Have you considered buying a new bios chip? Badflash Bad Flash

Ive always liked this board other than a few issues with it from time to time.

This is a DK board, so Im not sure if I can simply replace the bios chip like the LT/UTs. I really need to RMA but its out of warranty

Here lately its been dying alot, and takes alot of work just to get it to post again. Multiple CMOS clears ... even re-flashed bios.
Code 88 --- Bad CMOS,MOBO, or NB

Problem is, Im not sure exactly where the issue is. CMOS or NB. And its out of warranty so no RMA

This board has actually been RMAd once already, shortly after I got for same thing.

I was just thinking might be easier & faster to flat out replace it ;-/

Yeah, you cannot really depend upon a computer with a flaky motherboard. I'd just get whatever you can get..if you plan to build something new in just 3-4 months time. And if it were me...I'd really just try to hang on and get by with current equip if new build is that close. Seems a shame to spend money on something you are going to get rid of.
