new mobo

hi all
i have a new motherboard coming tomorrow and im gettin someone else to swap it over. hes just going to fit it for me.
this is my current board ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS M4N68T-M
and this is the new 1 Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H 880GA Socket AM3 8 Channel.. | Ebuyer.com
windows is already installed and i was just wondering if its just a straight forward clean install i have to do or is there anything else i need to do apart from the usual?

To keep from developing problems I'd just as well do a reinstall. On he other hand I've actaully changed the motherboard and other components and just slapped the OS hard drive right in and it worked well enough.

Anyway just reinstall a fresh copy of Windows and not have to worry about issues that may pop up.

My two cents.

Edit: Misread your post. Yeah, a clean install should be all that's required.

Whenever I've switched out a motherboard, I've always done a fresh install. Saves a headache and is always better offer to start off fresh, once in a while. Keep windows running at full speed. Just my 2 cents.

hi all n cheers for ur quick replies.
this prob sounds a dumb question. all the lad is doing for me is takin old out n putting new in.
so wen i get it back it wont hav been powered up. il have to start it up 2 put disc in. wil that cause any probs or do i boot in safe mode to b able to restart n boot from disc?
again soz its a dumb question i just like to make sure i got all basis covered

Whether you decide on a clean install or not, the first thing I do is go straight to bios. Select optimized defaults, set the boot order. set date and time save and exit. Then you can either try to boot or elect a clean install. Also, when you set boot order CD/DVD is first boot device, HD with OS is 2nd boot device. If you have problems, we'll be right here.

nice1 just wot i wanted to hear. cheerrs. if i hav any probs il be back lol. seven forums is like a life line to me at times. ive never had a prob that hasnt been solved here. thnks all


edit: i just thought, for some reason whenever my pc has been unplugged and i try to boot. the first time my monitors dont recieve any signal. i have to turn off then try again an it usually works.
any ideas why this may be??

I recently did much the same -- migrated from an older ASUS motherboard to a new Gigabyte motherboard -- and at first, even though I inserted the Gigabyte CD and loaded all the drivers, it appeared to work OK.

But as time went on, more and more stuff started failing -- one of which was an inability to launch an elevated command prompt! (Which is needed to fix lots of things).

I ended up doing a clean reinstall -- and that fixed everything.

So, I learned that hard way that a clean reinstall is the best in the long run.

yeah ive learned that its best to get it right from the start n save the grief l8r. so my pllan is just to do a clean install

any ideas how i can solve the prob with my monitors not getting a signal the first time i power up after the power lead has been disconected????? or is that just somethin that will always happen?
