Mitsubishi beams out first laser-powered TV

Lasers: now not just for blinding airline pilots
Starting from today, you can own a little bit of history - the world's first laser-powered telly.
Mitsubishi America is finally stocking shelves with the LaserVue L65-A90, a 65-inch rear projection set that uses DLP technology (usually found in projectors) to deliver amazing colour depth.
The Laservue set claims to be able to deliver twice the colour gamut of HDTV standard, using just 135W - a third of the power of a typical LCD and a quarter of those planet-hating plasmas.
3D or not 3D, that is the question
The A90 comes '3D Ready', a fairly meaningless term seeing as Blu-ray and other packaged media lack any 3D standards, but presumably there will be a few games that make use of it in the future.
Other features include 120Hz playback of Full HD (naturally) material, x.v.Colour, four HDMI 1.3a sockets and a 10-inch depth that is really quite reasonable considering the A90's hefty 60Kg weight.
There's the good news, here's the bad. The A90 is hitting shops today with a price tag of $7,000 (£4,500) - which puts it firmly head-to-head with Pioneer's stunning Kuro tellies. Watch TechRadar for a review soon.

A interesting message this morning about the Laser-Television front, there was some rumors that in Peking was shown a 150 inch Laser-Tv device day by day to show broadcast video information.It is said this laser-TV is only home-made display equipment used in Beijing Olympics and Paralympics.
It is also the first time that laser display technology is used to serve Olympics and Paralympics. Laser-TV is expected to enter common families around 2010. A very interesting message but who knows from which company is this Laser-TV Prototype????

Laser TV Wins Early Color Showdown Against Pioneer Kuro in Early Tests

A duo from Texas recently got their hands on the yet-to-be released Mitsubishi Laser TV and placed it in the first head to head match-up against the top-of-the-line Pioneer Kuro PRO-151FD 60-incher.
In the end, they came to the same conclusion I did when
I first laid eyes on the Laser: The colors, especially the reds, are gorgeous. And heavy action scenes with lots of motion are rendered in detail, and without much blur.
In addition, they found that the low-power consumption of the LaserVue was a great calling card, as it
consumes only 135 watts, as opposed to the 524 watts that the Kuro pulls.
But this picture quality rumble is destined to last through the Winter because there are some things the Kuro can do that the Laser apparently cannot.
According to these guys, the Kuro still has the best blacks, the best viewing angles, and its thinner build is way more conducive to setting up in your living room. By contrast, the LaserVue, at 10.6 inches deep, will take up a good chunk of space and even though it is wall-mountable, you wouldn’t really call it thin.
For the test, they used a Panasonic DMP-BD30K Blu-Ray player to play an Iron Man Blu-ray disk (as well as Pioneer's demo disk for side by side comparisons) and found the superhero’s suit more realistic looking, and just better defined overall, on the Laser. Same thing happened with the dress, as seen in the pic below.
