New monitor time...

Hi all

So I'm on the fence here. I've been waiting to upgrade from 1680x1050 to 1920x1080 for some time.

I only play some games, watch movies, and maybe a little bit of amateur photo editing. So I'm more concerned with image quality than response time. Still I have budget and space limits. If there was a monitor 23" or less, with at least 1920x1080 resolution, uses VA panel, 1:1 pixel mapping, and goes for less than 200 bucks, I'll be all over it. Well unfortunately I haven't spotted one.

Anyway I just found this monitor deal on slickdeals: Dell S2209W (22", 1920x1080) for 155$ total. At first I only planned to upgrade the screen when I can get a BD drive for less than 50$. But now this deal pops up, I'm not sure if I should go for it now. It expires today too. Aaah decision decision...

I could only found one "pro" review on this monitor from bit-tech, and a bunch of user reviews. Aside from the obvious flaws of the TN panel, the reviews are quite positive.

A few users complained about the lack of HDMI port on this screen. I wonder though, is there any advantage to have HDMI if the screen doesn't even have speakers?:sarc:

Anyone have this monitor? Or know good monitor review sites? A side-by-side comparison with other 22" 1080p screens would be golden. Thanks :D

Whenever Im in the market for upgrading a particular piece of hardware, I always turn to youtube and watch some review vids. Other places you can check are hardware review sites.

Not much activities around these parts on this forum eh? :p

Anyway, I gave in and bought that Dell. Not sure why it got little attention from hardware review sites.

I could dig up some more user reviews from that AnandTech thread. Thanks and repped guys :D
