New Pc Judders when 10 minutes into a game - Help needed :(

Hi!
So my newish computer has the following specs:

900w PCU AMD Phenom II x 4 965
Nvidia GTX 570 Asus
Asus M5A78L/USB3 motherboard
8GB RAM
Arctic CPU Fan
1080p 23' AOC monitor

Now any game I play I can start running at max settings on 1080p with no framerate drop or jumping(Skyrim/Hitman:Absolution/Deus Ex) The problem is that around 10 minutes into playing ANY game (Even rome total war) the game jumps ever 2 seconds or so, completely random when it happens :S

If I leave the game on the pause menu for a few minutes the jumping won't happen again until about 5 minutes into playing.

Now from what I have thought I believe it to be a problem with cooling or overheating.. because if it was a GPU hardware problem, there would be lag and jumping from the second the game starts.. not after a random amount of playing time.

What do you guy's think ?

How could I test to see if it is overheating on the CPU or GPU ? My cpu fan is quite a piece of shit really, wondering if a stock AMD fan would be any better...

Thanks in advance!

I don't get what exactly do you mean by jumping but... if you have already upgraded your audio and video drivers from the manufacturer, the next best thing would be to run CPU-Z from here... CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

It will show you certain things and it may be easier to check stuff... you can also download Core Temp

You could use msi afterburner to check temperatures and mem and cpu usage in game. Also if you got a anti virus, make sure to set in like game mode if it has one. Also for steam games I have found out from the steam forums that excluding C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\appcache\stats* in my anti virus gave me a fps boost. Anyways I think it's either a heat issue or a driver issue or even possibly a something wrong with the ram maybe but I think it's a driver problem then comes to mind is a heat issue. Reinstalling drivers and updating to the latest version might help, also make sure audio and other drivers are updated along with every windows update installed including sp1 which fixes a lot of issues.

It's hard to describe.. like graphics lag but it's not the graphics card otherwise it would do it all the time..

Downloaded Core temp and found that my CPU temp's ranged from 73 to 83 degrees C idle or with a light load (Hitman got 20% CPU capacity and was at 83 degrees C) I've looked at the cpu fan and it does go around, however I did not install the fan myself and I have a feeling something is going to be wrong with the thermal paste or cpu contact

I have seen where they differ from 60 to 70c MAX so getting to 83C I would call that Extreme and possibly why you are having that issue.

It wouldn't hurt if you buy some thermal paste, re seat your fan if you know it works and check the core temps again. Also make sure there is enough flow inside your case or you don't have it in front of the heater or fireplace! ;) :D

Thing is I don't really have the money to pay someone to check it.. so if I take out the cpu fan and re-do it all and it still doesn't work I'd be pretty screwed

Well, I understand what you are saying, perhaps a good friend can help you do this? This is not even hard to but I get that you might be scare to do... I know I was the first time I did my first build.

You do realize that the more this issue happens the more risk you are putting your computer under, right? Perhaps is time to prioritize your life... what you want to spend the money on and what you need to spend it on ;)

Well.. IM A GENIUS!!!! I considered what you said, went and got some thermal paste.. did about 20 hours of research, and swapped my 50 pound CPU cooler with a stock AMD one.. re-seated and paste re-applied. Temps went from 75 degrees C IDLE down to 34 degrees C idling.. just about to test at full load..

WOW I feel so happy!

I Left it for a few hours at a very high load, and it didn't go over 52 degrees! no more framerate drop's, no more crashes!

Do not trust a PC repair shop to fir a cooler properly is the moral of the story!!

I was trying to be funny for sure... although, up to a certain point.

From experience, when I talk to any of these Geniuses, they are all pretty much full of themselves and love to talk with Big Words, this makes them all have what I call "Tarzan Complex" and then I come to find out that, the little I know about computers is, sometimes, enough to run circles around them, sans the big words of course! :p :)

Don't want to stereotype of course... usually the ones wanting to help w/o them big words are the one with the most knowledge ;)

I agree with you. I know more about PC's than the average user, but I'm no PC genius like my friend has a natural talent for PC's. It really just depends on the workers at the store.

There was a "PC Club" in my area some years ago, they were cheap compared to CompUSA at the time, and then not even a year or two later they jumped from $35 for a "diagnostics" check to see whats wrong with your PC to $85. I think the store either went out of business or they just weren't making enough money and moved the store. Before that I think it was a bank at one point (there was a vault door). Last I saw, it turned into a mattress store. It's a really small building. Their workers were actually pretty good, but expensive as hell after they jumped their prices up.

The CompUSA store here also went out of business roughly the same time (or a year later) mainly because CompUSA is such a crappy store (and their prices are just plain ridiculous that they weren't making enough money). I also heard a few years ago that CompUSA was forced to close 30 of their stores in LA due to the same issue.

CompUSA was bought out by Tigerdirect, they have cleaned up their act and have decent prices now and decent customer service. Best buy on the other hand, wants to stick the whole hand in you for a simple usb cable or they give you 36 months to pay 0% but they over charge you on the TV by 300 to 400 bucks, I rather buy it online and save me the 400 bucks. According to friends, they have also changed their ways now that Amazon, Newegg and others are kicking its ass.

Yeah, I remember the one here didn't have that many "deals" or sales, and the "sales" were basically brought down to the same price as another store sold the same items without the sale. That's pretty much why the one here went out. We have a Bestbuy in it's place now, and I think they make more money than Compusa did.

Has anyone else heard of "PC Club"?
