New Rig -- No Boot

Looking for ideas. Power up all fans run, correct lights on board etc. Double checked Manual for Plugs etc. Checked power supply with volt meter (PCI, 5V, 12v etc.) No post beeps and no video. Tried anther monitor with same results. Graphics card is EVGA GTX-260. The card has never been used. It is new out of the box. Tried reseating and moving memory around. Cleaned contacts on card and reseated several times. Looks like I need a new vid card, this one is under warranty. But like most peoplem I'm in a hurry.

I had a spare monitor to check with but no video card. I think I'll buy a cheapy just for such occasions. I see a GT-240 for $45 after a rebate. Is that card worth $45?

Update

Vid Card ---- GTX 260 takes two six pin pci connectiors both were attached and both had correct voltage (checked with voltmeter)

Beep Codes -- Good info (but what is zero beeps)

Rmmaged around in my spare parts found old "Alpha Dog" card (it must have been good or I wouldn't have saved it). No help, it does't work either.

Pulled the MoBo and checked CPU socket for damage. No apparent damage. Chip only goes in one way, correct? There is no arrow on the socket but the guide pins only let it go in one way.

The board is in an HAF 932 case with a V8 Cooler installed on The CPU. The relief hole in the back plane is off 1 1/2 inches so I had to install the cooler prior to installing the board. While the board is out I'll fix that with a dremel. Done for tonight

No-Boot diagnostics:

Follow static precautions!
Remove everything from the motherboard. Only the processor and fan installed. (some people do this with the MB out of the case and sitting on an antistatic surface - this eliminates grounding problems that can occur from incorrectly placed or shorting standoffs). Connect power to motherboard (24pin) and the 8-pin processor connector. Start computer.

You should get a beep code: no memory installed. If you do not get a beep code there are two possibilities: the CPU is bad or incorrectly installed, or the motherboard is no good.

If you do get a beep code then you can add the memory: one stick at a time is best. Start up. You should get the error beep code: no video card. If you do not get a beep code then the memory is bad, or the memory sockets.

If you do get a beep code then you can add the video card. Etc Etc.

This helps you to isolated the failed part for replacement.

TV --- I think I'll try that tomorrow. I need to find something suitable to lay it on. Something I can lay down inside of the case (while it on its side) Which will let the PS cnnectors reach. What about the 8 pin connector (12V)?

I don't know what your have for computer stores there, but at Fry's you can get PSU extension cables.

Yes, the 8-pin powers the CPU. Gotta have it.

When I've done this outside the case I removed the power supply also. Laid the PS close enough to the case to connect the power switch lead, then laid the motherboard next to the PS on a piece of cardboard with the anti-static bag it came in on top of the cardboard.

The processor has a small gold triangle mark on one corner of the chip. The correct orientation is for that triangle to be in the corner of the socket that the base (bottom) of the latch lever is on.

The CPU heatsink and fan must be attached and plugged into the correct fan header or the CPU will not run.

Edit: If you do get the "no memory" beep code out of the case, then put everything back in the case and test again before you move on to the memory test.

Still No Beeps

Checked board as per TVeblen's post. No beeps with just the cooler and the 24 pin power cord plugged in. Cooler fan ran.
It would appear I need a new board or CPU chip. I'll have to buy the board. The CPU should be warranted.

The machine I'm on has 8 Gig ( 4X2). The one I am having a problem with will have 12 Gig (6X2).
Does that answer you question?

Progress?

Board on the bench, 24 pin plug hooked up, eight pin power plug hooked up and nothing else. I get three beeps. Add any memory to any slot and it goes dead again. The mem I bought for it is 1600. I see in the manual it will only operate with one 1600 per channel. But anywhoo it won't work with any combo even changing the chip or chips I was testing with. I went to my spare parts and found two 1333 chips and I tried changing them around in different places. No luck. Is the memory slots by chance borked?

The P6T has 6 memory slots, 3 red, 3 black. Starting from the slot closest to the processor they are numbered A2-A1-B2-B1-C2-C1 (see Manual)

Are you populating (installing a memory stick) the A1 and B1 (red) slots?

For diagnosis, just put one stick in the A1 slot only, and test. Keep switching out the different sticks in the A1 slot to test them all.

If none work in the A1 slot then you could have a bad MB.
If one or more of the sticks work then you have bad RAM.

Slot Paired

Slots are black and red. Left most slot black = A2
Nest slot (to right) red = A! Repeat that for six slots three channels. I tried all slots indivdually and in pairs. with the correct config two sticks is A1 and B1 and so on no worky board stops responding. That 1600 speed sticks. I tried some 1300 in different configs. No work, stops beeping. Me thinks there is something wrong with the board.
