New router and cannot connect properly

I got a new router and it has full bar connection, but it always have trouble connecting.
Right now I'm on a different person's connection because of it.
But I'd like to connect to my own connection.

I have a comstar Wireless N router.
I used to have a Gateway G router.
It's only my laptop that's having problems with the internet connection.
I have a HP G61

Basically... what happens is:
Whenever I connect. It connects for maybe ten minutes up to an hour before it disconnects me.
Then when I disconnect it doesn't connect back.

ok in network and sharing on the left panel click on change adapter settings right click on wireless adapter and choose properties the click on the configure button go to the power management tab uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power click ok

Hi KOSSIT, lets cover the basics.

1) Are there any driver issues that can be seen in Device Manager?
2) What is your wireless network security, is it WEP, WPA etc? and have you configured W7's wireless connection to use the same?
3) Have your tried resetting the router, and recreate your wireless network?

It tells me the cord is either broken or not connected.
I'm looking right at it. It's connected and it's not broken.

is this what it says when you run diagnostics you need to be more specific

Alright. Whenever it disconnects. I press 'troubleshoot'
Everytime it comes up with the "detected problems."
It says:
Cord is broken or not connected.
My question is exactly:
"What cord?"
I am connecting wireless.

ok so it's testing the wired LAN adapter and not the wireless...does your wireless adapter show up in device manager as having the correct drivers installed

what are the numbers after HP G61 - xxxxxx on the bottom label

on your new router did you do enter the configuration utility and set up the wireless settings make sure it's broadcasting an SSID make sure that the wireless is set to mixed and not N only set N radio to off or 2.4 Ghz your laptop does not have an N wireless card so the N wireless radio in the router does you no good also make sure to set the router and wirless card on same wirless channel also did you restart you ISP modem after you connected the new router

Replace the Ethernet cable between the router and the gateway device (the modem).

If me, I would connect the laptop via Ethernet to the router and see if the connection holds that way. If you still get disconnected via Ethernet, the problem is not with your wireless access.

Yeah. Another laptop is hooked up to the ethernet. It's only my computer that's having problems. I JUST got this computer. All the drivers are up.
It's just my computer disconnects and tells me that the cord to the adapter is broken.

By broken, do you mean Media Unplugged?
