Since I put in Win 7 over the weekend, I have been getting a new sound. I have been d/l several large (2 gig) files restoring my programs. It seems when the HD starts working extra hard, I hear this "ding, ding, ding". One about every second as long as the HD is working hard. It doesn't seem to interfere with the operation, but I am always suspect of sounds that are new. Anyone have any ideas what that might be?

Installing any new OS, does a number on your HD. I would suggest that you follow the instructions of the above poster. Then do a complete ck dsk for errors. It will take about 1.5 hours. Then do a defrag. I can almost bet that between me and the above poster your problem will be solved. Yes, its possible that your HD is starting to go at the same time that you install a new system, but I doubt it. In any event, good luck.

I was searching After owning my windows 7 laptop for about a year on deployment to Afghanistan, I started encountering this 3-4 second repeating "ding" noise whenever my iPod was connected to the computer. No worries, I would just mute tthe sound and keep on trucking. Home on R&R, i downloaded a bunch of movies and video games to keep me busy on the rest of the deployment, and now with or without the iPod, the rediculous ding occurs. My answer: Asus NBProbe, the system monitor that was preinstalled with the computer. Apparently that ding and your jedi powers should be enough for you to open NBProbe, identify the problem (97% HD space used!), correct the problem and the ding goes away. Unfortunately, NOTHING ties the ding in with the probe software, such as a error code/info bubble. Alas, exit out of the NBProbe, and i found myself good to go once again. (my girlfriend is very thankful :D)
