So I got my new SSD drive and I have hopefully saved my win 7 installation by imaging with reflect ..... think I'm about up to speed with that part of the operation, soon as I get my bigger external drive to save it on

so are there any preparations to be made to a new SSD drive, I mean does it need formatting?

its a 240gb crucial SSD drive at the mo just for windows operating system .... is this too big

The size is fine mate as Britton says it is really a good starting size as the 120GB fills quite quickly and I use the same system set up as Britton does with my desktops anyway.
A good thing to do is and this is just my personal idiosyncrasy to make a back up of the registry after that first install

and then I have a regular (weekly - you can set what time intervals you like) backup of the boot drive with this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/73828-imaging-free-macrium.html

If you do a new w7 install have only the SSD attached at the time. It's always best if only 1 drive is attached when installing Windows.
