Solved New SSD install windows won't take code

Got a new PC (see specs) and wanted to install SSD for OS and put everything else on 2TB HDD. I disconnected HDD and hooked up SSD, put in windows disc installed fine up to code. I used code on the PC case, error said SKU did not match disc (or something to that extent).
Disc is Win7-64 Home, same as OEM, I was under impression that the code on the case would have worked fine. Was that wrong?
Win7 is installed on HDD but I preferred to have a clean install vs. a clone?

Anyway to get it to recognize the case code? Or am I stuck copying the drive?

Where did the w7 DVD come from?

The Win7 DVD was a retail disc from another install

If it is a full retail version, it should work with the COA from the case. Try it again and at the first screen where it asks for Language, press SHIFT+F10 to bring up the cmd prompt.
Type the following bold items in the cmd window, ENT=press Enter key.

diskpart ENT A few seconds later the response will say "Diskpart".

sel dis ENT
The disks in the system will been displayed, look at the size listed to select the SSD for the next step, I will assume it is disk 0 (zero) for this example.

sel dis 0 ENT,The response will be "Disk 0 is the selected disk"

clean This will remove all data on the drive, including formatting.

create partition primary ENT, Diskpart succeeded in crating the partition.

list partition ENT This should show only one partiton, the just created.

format fs=ntfs quick ENT this will do a quick format, for a full format (I recommend) leave off the word quick.

active ENT, marks the new partition active.

exit ENT

exit ENT

Now you should be able to proceed with the install. This will not create the 100MB System Reserved partition.

I feel awfully foolish.
I tried to activate again once in windows before I gave the above procedure a try. Turns out my retail disc is Win7 Pro and I was trying to activate Win7 Home.

I have a couple option:
Install from backup of HDD or use one of the clone disc programs. Any thoughts as to the best route?

Download the appropriate ISO (Pro, Home Premium etc.) for your product key and install using these steps (download links in tutorial):

+1 for the recommendation.
Also make sure your bios is set to AHCI mode under SATA config as the ssd wont run any quicker than you would be use to otherwise.

Solved

I was succesfully in getting the iso to to instal the correct win7 version following the procedure below.
Going to get everything updated, backed up and then instal hdd

Good news!

If you have w7 installed you can reattach the HDD anytime.
