I'm getting ready to swap my system drive( 40 G SSD) for a new SSD 250 G drive. Does it make sense to first format the drive into 2 partition, ( say, 125/125)? Thanks

Just in case...........should I use the back half to store things (maybe movies or whatever) and a situation suggested a reformat of the "C" drive it could be done without disturbing the storage part. That's all I can think of, I've been fighting a losing battle of running out of space for several years.
Ok, I get it. Separating data files from System files is actually a good thing since it allows the use of different backup methods for each. Usually, imaging is the best way to backup the System and folder/file syncing is best for backing up data.
The split you suggested looks good unless you run some pretty large programs or games. Keep in mind that you should leave at least 20-25% of the SSD empty to avoid write amplification which will reduce remaining write life.

Hi,
I would usually wait until after the clean install then split the ssd or hdd in half
I do it this way to avoid a 100mb system reserved partition being created by the installer
You can use free mini tool to do it easily it is allot better than using disk management Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free
