I installed a SSD in my laptop around Christmas. I tried to migrate from my original HD. The system works fine but in the process I lost half of the capacity due to hosed up partitioning. I have noticed threads on this site helping people with partitioning issues but I could find one that was the same as mine.

I would like to maximize the capacity of my c: drive and either minimize or remove the other partitions on Disk0. Can someone point me in the right direction to accomplish the task.

Here is a screenshot of my issue...

Acer's typically have cuckoo partitioning, so I'm not surprised.

You've got 2 System Reserved partitions and shouldn't have more than 1. Two active partitions and shouldn't have more than 1.

System Reserved on Disk 0 appears to be empty.

Will this PC boot and operate perfectly if Disk 1 is disconnected? I'd guess it will not. Can you confirm this?

What is Disk 1? Another internal drive? Your "original" drive? Was this drive connected when you migrated from some other drive to the SSD?

The D partition on disk 0 is apparently empty. Correct? I'd think you could just delete it, and then use Partition Wizard to add that space and the sliver of unallocated space next to it to C.

Disk 1 has an empty recovery partition and disk 0 has a PQ Service partition. I'm wondering how an empty recovery partition came to be? I'm guessing PQ Service is a tools partition that was copied over during your migration?

A mess, with more info needed.

A mess indeed!

Yes it does boot and run perfectly fine without Disk 1. I just removed Disk 1 and rebooted to confirm this.

Disk 1 is the original HD that I bought a serial ata caddy and stuck it in where the DVD was. I used the the original drive in an external usb case to do the migration using EaseUS Partition Master (free) to do the clone, if memory serves me.

Yes D: is empty.

I'm not sure how the recovery partition became empty???

I thought PQService was the Acer files to restore the laptop to back to original? Maybe not?

I appreciate your quick response. Thank you!

Here is what you do:

1. Copy the bootmgr to C
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/209885-bootmgr-move-c-easybcd.html

2. Get the bootable CD of Partition Wizard and burn that to CD
Bootable Partition Manger | MiniTool Partition Wizard Bootable Edition

3. Boot your system with that CD

4. Delete D which is empty and system reserved 2. That gives you a nice chunk of unallocated space.

5. Add that space to C

Here are a bunch of PW tutorials which may help.

If you have questions, post back. Btw - I have no idea what that PQService partition is.

If the PC will boot with disc 1 disconnected, then apparently the System Reserved 2 partition on disc 1 is useless and can be deleted as well.

I wouldn't delete it until and unless you can get WHS's solution to work. If that works, then you can delete System Reserved 2 on disk 1.

PQService on disc 0, the SSD, obviously came from disc 1. It may have been MOVED from disc 1 or it may have been COPIED from disc 1. It is peculiar that a so-called migration from disc 1 to disc 0 did not include the recovery partition shown on disc 1, although it may have been simply renamed to PQService on disc 0.

I wouldn't worry about the recovery and PQService partitions at this time. Get disc 0 expanded to your satisfaction first.

If the recovery partition on disc 1 is in fact empty, it may as well be deleted eventually as well.

Do you recall if the original hard drive at one time had both a PQService and a recovery partition? I can't recall exactly how insane Acer partitions are.

I'd look at me being the mess maker over Acer. LOL

Why don't you do what I posted above. That will clean up your disc.

@Jack, thanks for finding the definition of that partition. Strange name though.

Pull out all drives but the new ssd, setup the new ssd. Create, format, align and set the partition active using a Partition Wizard Boot CD.

Then.... Clean install windows to ssd. It will then be perfect.

Disk 0 looks terrible and C is all the way to the right, the wrong side of the drive, even if it is a solid state drive.

You`ll use the key on your COA to activate windows.
