Hello,

I am new to windows 7 and have an issue with going out of sleep mode. When my computer goes to sleep, I must shut off the power and restart to get it going again. Today, while looking around inside one of the troubleshooting areas (can't find it now), there was a message about not being able to exit sleep mode because of an un-needed driver and it was listed somewhat like this.......can't find it, because I don't know where I found it. Anhow, it said if this was not needed to delete it, but I don't know how:

"These drivers are causing Windows to resume slowly:
Name = AMD multi-vendor Miniport Driver
Filename = atikmpag.sys
Publisher = AMD, Inc.
If you no longer use this device consider uninstalling it.

I have an ATI Radeon HD 5500 and I don't have a clue how to get inside there and remove this area that is causing my issue. How do I enter the driver area and how do I remove or uninstall this driver?

Drivers are removed by using Device Manager:
Control Panel >> Device Manager.

Right-click the driver you want to remove, then choose "Uninstall".

You may only need to turn off the ATI software package which is probably starting up with Win7 and running all the time. It's not needed except for its separate driver, unless you are overclocking or running separate settings.

Go into msconfig>Startup and uncheck the ATI listings: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1401-startup-programs-change.html

Restart and try sleep>wake. If problem persists go into Device Manager, on View tab>Show Hidden Devices, browse to find the logged problem driver and disable it to see what happens.

If you have a lot of other programs starting with Win7, I would uncheck all but AV and gadgets unless you absolutely have to have them started on the desktop when you startup. Otherwise they are freeloaders on RAM/CPU, Startup and can spy on you.

Here are other troubleshooting fundamentals for Win7 since you are already checking your logs :geek: : http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...-lags-every-couple-seconds-2.html#post1131640

Thank you muchly, problem solved. Appreciate the help!
