Thanks for the replies chaps,have eventually got it going,and got rid of the rubbish icons on the desktop.
I did it by pressing O,then pressing the power on,and then it allowed us to create 4 rescue dvds to the default win7 (out of the box),then was able to create our own password,and get rid of that rubbish.
So now we have a clean win7.

Yes we did,but as i said,it wouldn't let us do anything when we were in the desktop,without using a password,and we didn't want to try your methods at the time as we were debating whether my son should take it back to the USA,as if we messed it up,they wouldn't want to know it.

So in the end,as my grandaughter needed it soon,we did as you said after a few days,and did get the default rescue dvds off it,so thanks to you,it is good to go now,have deleted all the Norton files,and in the registry as well,and put on nod32.

Using Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from the recovery partition

If the computer is running, shut it down -- by clicking Start, Shut Down, and again Shut Down.
