so trying to install w7 64

it prompts to "press key to boot" from cd message.

then says loading files and doesnt continue after.

what can I check or what more info is needed to help?

thanks for the reply. yes as is. mouse and KB works in bios so dont know why the issue.

this is why I chose these components (or this used pc build) is because it should install w7 perfectly fine.

everything is supported regularly.

funny though, but I didnt see the dvd drive as an option. maybe im not looking in the right place. so when it comes to boot I get a message.

status 0xc0000185

when I press enter a few times, the "press any button" thing comes up. the dvd drive is spinning. but then hangs on the starting windows splash screeen

The keyboard and mouse stop working because the Windows 7 disc lacks necessary drivers.
I had to upgrade my own Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit disc a few years ago for the same reason.
You should make use of SIW2's web page link that I provided so you can upgrade your disc.

You have almost the same MB than I do.
I think you didn't understand what flavallee explained. The GA-H170-D3HP requires some drivers that isn't on the Win 7 installation drive. You need to add USB3.x, SATA and NVMe drivers to the installation files. If you don't you won't be able to install Win 7 on the GA-H170-D3HP.
Under BIOS you use BIOS drivers. That is why you can use USB mouse and keyboard.

@flavallee dont mind my inexperience, aka stupidity. ive never done these things in any install. I just run the dvd and its done.

@Megahertz07 thanks for the assist and explanation.. I appreciate all your help and knowledge. regarding this process

Update your Win 7 installation media

..do I do this on another pc and "slip" these drivers into a win7 disc I burn? is there a video on how to do this?

I dont have experience with this at all. ive installed win 7 multiple times, but never had to modify the disc

in the mb page, under chipset is the last file " Microsoft Hot fix [KB2685811(64)] 2014/05/02"
is this something I need to tackle too? what a pita. curious on all this, when the mb was still using w7 as default os when this board came out? me and win10 are not friends so no choice but figure out how to do this.

cheers friends. enjoy your weekend

I got a similar problem two months ago when re-installed my HP computer.
use KB/mouse working on BIOS mode then changed to idle (their red LEDs went dim ) when "starting windows" pop-up.
it was a USB port/driver issue.

https://www.sevenforums.com/tutoria...le-after-motherboard-swap-26.html#post3513972

I tried various ways. DISM or non-DISM. to add drivers, USB3 driver, , ,

It's found that the easiest way is to use a PS/2 mouse or KB. it will work before and after "starting windows". once go through, Windows re-starts. then simply install HP USB3 drivers (a little specific). after USB driver installed, you can re-connect your USB mouse and KB. they are functional properly.

rocketman122, I've sent you a private message.

To install Win 7 on your GA-H170-D3HP
Reset BIOS or load defaults.
Set Disk mode to AHCI, not RAID
Select OS mode = other.
Disable fast boot and secure boot (Win 7 isn't compatible)

Windows can be installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR you must boot the installation drive as Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT you must boot the installation drive as UEFI.

As you have a UEFI BIOS, you should install as UEFI-GPT
Detach any other drives (SATA or Power cable) from the MB.

During POST, press F12 to launch the boot menu. You will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name).
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the main drive till you have one and only one unallocated space and then proceed.

so had a motorcycle accident. 3 broken ribs. was at my moms for some basic help with food. im back home now.

I saw your message and thank you for your time and effort. trying to download through the site but it says memory runs out. I have 8gb and 4gb available to use and it couldnt succeed.

im going to try and install the ssd in my old amd 8320fx pc. run it there, and turn the pc off when it says "windows will restart" the first restart it does, pull it, put it in new pc and continue from there and see how it goes.

It will install but you will end with no USB and may not boot as it doesn't have the SATA drivers.

Can't understand why you can't download a 3G folder from the link I provided.

I think I got it installed.

I tried installing it on lenovo laptop. it showed me an error, so used this
Solved: Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition - YouTube

then it was able to install it on the drive. took it out, put it in pc. no go. reset bios to defaults. that worked. but only usb 2 ports worked and I had no usb 2.0 stick around. so went back to laptop. burned files to dvd. too dvd and installed drivers. usb 3.0 worked. transfered other things. I dont think I installed all pertinent drivers yet, but amd gpu driver installed. now to tweak the hell out of it over the next 2 weeks before it gets to be online.

finally got it done. pita. I cant stand w10 so no choice. I will reinstall w10 on another drive for specific programs needed that w7 doesnt support. maybe some games too. but it will never be connected to the internet.

thank you all. very kind of you
