Hi.

My hdd failed so I replaced it with an ssd and went ahead and installed windows 7 again.

I've tried to 'check for updates' but the only updates that install are some which are downloaded as part of a scheduled scan. Checking manually simply leaves the system 'checking' for hours.

I'm currently following the steps here:

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...4840-windows-update-posting-instructions.html

But in the meantime, does anyone recognize my symptoms? I've not had any errors/ failed updates. Simply checking.....and more checking (system update readiness tool appears to be stuck in this rut too). I've already run an sfc scan and it came back clear.

Ant help appreciated as this is my work computer:cry:

P.S I want to update to 10, but as the comp won't update I can't get the 10 icon to click in the bottom right hand corner!

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
First step would be to make sure windows is activated,
Click start and right click the Computer listing and click on Properties
On the bottom should list it's status

There are literally hundreds of updates on a clean install and that's if you have sp1 on the installation media :)

It was indeed taking so long because of the fact that there were hundreds of updates.

Just patience needed!

Thanks,

Dave
