Hello Brennen. Here in the UK, students can get exceptional deals on student and teacher software.

As an example, Microsoft Office 2010 can had be for around £40 ($60) and Adobe Design Premium CS5 for less than £300 ($450).

If you have anything similar in the USA you might want to check with your student faculty to see if any companies do similar deals.

The only proviso is that you have to be a student at a recognised school, college or university and with Adobe in particular you would need to provide proof of your student status before they'll give you a serial number to activate the software.

However, the cost savings are substantial so it's well worth looking into.

Ive heard they do the same with text books as well... How would I find stuff like that?
Ive been told to search for the "international version" for text books online. But as far as software, I havent heard anything.

... I'd suggest that you just run what's on there and learn to understand what you have thoroughly. Then after reading posts on this forum every day, eventually you will begin to understand what a poster is talking about and you can make an intelligent decision as to what else to get or replace some of the applications you already have...

Good advice.

You'll see all sorts of ads for stuff telling you that you "need" something. What is really involved is that they need your money.

Use the computer to do the things you want to do, while in the back of your mind asking yourself if there is anything about what you're doing you wished were different or better. When you spot a real need for something you want, then it's time to go looking.

There are hundreds (probably thousands) of threads around here starting with "What's the best__________?". You can usually find something that has already been discussed in detail. If you have further questions you'll be better prepared to ask intelligent questions which will be more likely to get you the answers you need. You're already off to a good start!

I might also suggest, when you have time, look in the top left corner at the top of the page. Click on tutorials. There are hundreds of tutorials that will tell you how to do most anything you want to. I think you might be amazed at some of the things windows 7 can do.
