[solved] newb - rolling back a driver...?

Just got Win7 now on my laptop.

I had installed a usb device and found it was not working as it should.

So I got different drivers from the manufactures website, 64-bit etc.

However, when I go to the device manager and try to "update driver" then manually go to the location where I want and click to re-install then Win7 just says "actually you have the best/most up to date drivers" and I can't get it to manually choose the older (and better) drivers!

Any ideas?

You can do a System Restore at a point before you installed the new driver.

thanks, although that might roll back a whole lot of other stuff that I don't want rolling back, and I've done so much stuff I wouldn't know exactly what to re-do...

(you have, however, inspired me to have my favourite food item as a picture,- a Greggs pasty from the UK... actually I'm quite hungry now.)

Thats surprising. Try the following:

1) If the older driver is an .exe file, just double click on it and it should install. You can then check the driver version in Device manager.

2) You can rollback to the previous driver.

In Device Manager, locate the device that you want to roll back the driver for.

Right click on the device's name or icon and click on Properties.

In the Properties window for the device, click the Driver tab.

Click the Roll Back Driver button (If it is disabled, Windows 7 does not have a previous driver to roll back to)

Click the Yes button

The previously installed driver will now be restored.

I think I got it now.

it was actually a physical switch on my device that said "advanced driver on/off" ... so switching that on provoked it into needing the most up to date driver.
