Just received my laptop back from Toshiba with a new System Board and HD after having some issues with it before everything seems to be doing just fine other than I have not been able to download any of my updates through Windows Update. Current code WU returns upon failing:

80070057

I have ran both of the WU Fix (microsofts and WU Fix) that you have described in other posts and ran WU again with no luck. I asked specifically for your help seeing as you seem to have quite a bit of knowledge in fixing this problem. Hope to hear back soon.

Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

You do have me! I shall see if there is anything I can do! Basically, difficult error code, and so I need to take some logs, because at the moment I have no foothold/starting point.

First, can you please download and install the System Update Readiness Tool if you can: Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

Does this error occur on all updates? Did the System Update Readiness Tool succeed?

Now please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

Thanks a lot!

Richard

I have previously installed the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 x64 in an attempt to fix this problem before I should not run again correct? After installing the Readiness Tool before it fixed another error code I was having (sorry didnt write it down, might be in a log somewhere?) and allowed approx 10 updates to install successfully. This code is the only one shown now while selecting all important and optional updates at this time. Logs are compressed upload with...?

Hello again!

Don't worry about the error code. That will be in the logs. Also, don't worry about re-running the System Update Readiness Tool. I shall look at the log already generated, and go from there. Please move onto uploading the CBS folder:

Please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here. You can find out how to upload a file by having a look at this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html

Thanks!

Richard
