I recently purchased and installed a new copy of my Windows 7 operating System. The installation went smoothly, including acceptance of the new product key. However, at the end I could not access the internet, though it was accessible from other computers in the same room. The following error message was displayed:"Install a driver for your network adapter. Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter you will need to re-install the driver." What do I do next? Robert Osness

Hi,

From device manager, do you have anything marked with an ! or unknown....
if so please open it and provide the PCI/VEN details from it
(Details tab, then the Hardware ID)
Check in Network adapters as well

Hi Torchwood,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I don't find anything marked with an ! or unknown. I do have a message:
" Windows was unable to install your 802.11ac WLAN adapter." if that's any help.

Ethernet is up in another room, but not wired to the area where I'm presently working. I can get it to the Win 7 machine with a little cable stringing if that is what you are suggesting.

Thanks for suggesting the Ethernet option. Unfortunately, it made no difference. Error messages say there are some drivers missing, which need internet connection to find. Back to square one.

PLAN B
from a run command
msinfo32

Expand the sections

(you might also find it in Software Enviroment Network)

Which machine is this on - Dell or Custom Gigabyte

Is this the motherboard you are using? Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Rev. 6.0

If so did you go to the Gigabyte website and download the LAN driver?

LAN: Realtek LAN Driver OS: Windows 7 64bit, Windows 7 32bit
Version: [7.088.0617.2014]
Date: 2015/04/16

If this is not your motherboard what do you have?

I have a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.0) with Windows 7 64-bit. It uses the same Realtek LAN driver as your motherboard.

As you see below my LAN is working fine:
