My sound comes from a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6. Everything works fine. However, when I put the computer to sleep for more then 4 hours I have to log out to get sound back. I know this is not a hardware issue. Is there a way to "boot" drivers without having to log out or otherwise fix this problem?

Thanks,
Burt

The Focusrite is a USB device. Apparently when you go into sleep mode the USB ports are powered down. Not sure how you set it so it doesn't power down but either in Windows or the BIOS there will be an option.

I don't use the "sleep" (or hibernate) function except that I have the monitor set to "power off" after 1 hour. Nothing else. This eliminates many potential problems.

BTW, I use a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 with Sonar for recording.

Funny thing is, it doesn't do this most of the time. Just when I have a desktop layed out that I want to use the next day (of course). I have a full house of USB connections. They all work normally. I'll try checking with (if exists) a Focusrite forum.

BTW, I use Live. What monitor speakers do you use? I've got 2 sets of crappy computer speakers. No one in my area except Guitar Center has decent monitors to audition. They have Rokits, Yamaha, a few others and JBL 2325 which I'm leaning toward. I'm willing to go up to Genelecs or Dynaudio but at that price point I really need to hear them.

I have two Samson RESOLV 6.5a that I've had for a couple of years. Rhe Rokit's are popular but it may depend on the particular model(s).

I have one of the new Focusrite "VRM Box" units that emulate different speaker setups via a S/PDIF output on my Focusrite Saffire Pro 40. It's a software package that allows selecting various speakers and configurations. I use it to check mixes with different types.

The PC audio and PC speakers can "cloud" the mix and usually is not good for mixdown. But, even with studio monitors, I made a CD of the mixed songs and play them on several different systems I have, a big stereo system, a boom box and car stereo to see how it sounds. Sometimes I'll do 4 or 5 mixes before I'm happy, although I've been doing this for over 10 years (and the last 4 with Sonar and a PC) so I can usually get pretty close on the "first mix".
