Respected techies...kindly help me out ...

Problem: a week ago my laptop suddenly stopped booting.i dint do anything new such as hardware or software change which might have caused it....although my win updates and vaio updates are always on

Laptop specs:sony vaio.preinstalled OS (no CD)win 7 home premium 64 bit

Solutions tried:
1.mem diagnostics carried out.
2.repair through F8 options...did no good
3.safe mode(All types).Last known good config....dint work as well

In all of above i get win7 wallpaper ....mouse pointer only ...no icons...no options

4.tried installing win xp sp2...no luck...gets an error screen with some hex code

5.tried installing fresh win 7 ULTIMATE...plz note i have home premium

in this case i get stuck on "Setup is starting options"...plz note i waited for an hour.
for some time the yellow light blinks then it stops

Ulltimately ,i may say iam tired of retrying all of above. So do i have another option??

Requirement.
I have sensitive and imp data on my D:/ drive..i need it.
My win installed directory is C:/

PLZ HELP.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219533-troubleshooting-windows-7-failure-boot.html may help to an extent. There are steps there that will at least allow you to backup your data. :)

Also, try clearing the BIOS software/hardware connections and clearing temporary memory of corruption prior to installing:
  1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
  2. Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
  3. "Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
  4. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
  5. (If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
  6. Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

Use these steps to install: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164

I would suggest only installing with your licensed version of Windows 7 and not with Ultimate.
